Denza, BYD’s premium automotive brand, is considering launching a vehicle-financing business in Europe, potentially as early as 2027. The move could give the brand a way to compete more directly with established luxury automakers such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which use in-house financing to support vehicle loans and leases. However, the proposal remains under consideration, with no confirmed launch date, ownership structure or lending partners announced.
Denza Considers European Auto Financing Business
According to a report from Bloomberg, Denza is exploring the possibility of establishing its own vehicle-financing operation in Europe, potentially beginning in 2027. The company has not confirmed that the business will launch, and details about its structure, participating banks and initial markets remain unknown.
Financing plays an important role in Europe’s premium-car market, where monthly payments and resale values can influence buyers’ decisions. BMW and Mercedes-Benz already operate extensive in-house financing businesses that support loans and leasing through their dealerships.
A similar operation from Denza could allow customers to arrange financing, leases and other payment packages alongside their vehicle purchases. That approach could reduce the need for buyers to negotiate separately with banks, although Denza has not announced any financing terms or indicated whether its offers would be less expensive than existing alternatives.
Used-Car Values Pose a Challenge for Denza
Establishing an automotive financing business would bring significant responsibilities. Denza would need to fund loans, evaluate borrowers, manage defaults and estimate how much its vehicles would be worth several years after purchase.
Predicting resale values could be particularly difficult because Denza has limited experience in Europe’s used-car market. The brand launched in Paris in April and does not yet have an established European track record for used-vehicle values.
Working with an existing lender could provide a more straightforward path into vehicle financing. However, according to the report, no decision has been made about the business’s structure or whether Denza would pursue such a partnership.
Denza Builds on Its BYD and Mercedes-Benz History
Denza originally began as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz before BYD acquired full ownership. The brand is now introducing its first models outside China, including the Z9 GT electric shooting brake and the D9 plug-in hybrid minivan.
Denza has also outlined an ambitious European expansion plan. The company says it intends to operate in more than 30 European countries, with over 150 outlets, by the end of 2026.
A potential financing operation would add another element to that expansion, giving the brand the option to offer vehicle purchases and payment arrangements through a more integrated retail approach.
Chinese Automakers Gain Ground in Europe
Denza’s potential move into financing comes as Chinese automotive brands increase their presence across Europe. Chinese manufacturers accounted for a record 11.7% of European vehicle registrations in August, an increase of 111% from a year earlier.
BYD alone captured 3.1% of the combined European Union, European Free Trade Association and UK market, up from 1.4%, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA).
BYD first overtook Tesla in Europe in 2025, and its expansion has continued. Against that backdrop, Denza is considering whether a dedicated financing business could complement its vehicle lineup and growing European retail network.
Denza’s Financing Plans Remain Unconfirmed
Denza has not confirmed a European financing launch, and questions remain about potential banking partners, ownership arrangements, market availability and loan terms. For now, the reported proposal remains under consideration as the BYD-owned brand expands its presence in Europe.
