Chevrolet has introduced a limited-edition Corvette C8 Stingray convertible in Japan, but the exclusive V8 Tourer comes with a notable trade-off for performance enthusiasts. Limited to just 15 units and priced at 21,500,000 JPY, or about $136,000, the special edition features distinctive styling and an upgraded interior but retains the 6.2-liter V8 rather than the newer 6.7-liter engine offered in the United States.
The Japanese-market Corvette combines exclusive design details with a familiar powertrain, creating a rare version of Chevrolet’s sports car. While its limited production could appeal to collectors, its engine specifications differ from those of the 2027 model-year Corvettes available in the U.S.
Chevrolet Corvette V8 Tourer Is Limited to 15 Units
Chevrolet has developed a dedicated special edition for its Japanese customers, reflecting the Corvette’s following in Japan. The latest addition is the Corvette C8 Stingray convertible V8 Tourer, a Japan-exclusive model detailed on Chevrolet Japan’s official website.
Only 15 examples will be produced, making the V8 Tourer an unusually scarce version of the C8 Corvette. However, its exclusivity does not extend to receiving the latest engine available in the American-market lineup.
Instead, the V8 Tourer uses Chevrolet’s 6.2-liter small-block V8, which produces 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. That leaves it about 40 horsepower behind the newer C8 models in the United States equipped with the 6.7-liter V8.
Distinctive Exterior Upgrades Set the V8 Tourer Apart
Although the V8 Tourer does not receive the larger engine, Chevrolet has given the limited edition several visual enhancements. The convertible is finished in Red Mist Metallic tintcoat paint, with Sterling Silver racing stripes running across the hood, roof and rear spoiler.
Additional exterior details include a modest rear spoiler, a red engine cover and black-painted brake calipers. The car also rides on forged aluminum wheels finished in nickel, featuring a five-spoke design.
Together, these details give the V8 Tourer a distinct appearance compared with standard C8 Corvette convertibles sold in Japan.
Corvette V8 Tourer Gets a Special Interior
The special edition’s cabin continues the distinctive color scheme with tan leather complemented by black leather throughout the interior. The combination reinforces the model’s touring-oriented character.
Chevrolet also equips the V8 Tourer with GT2 bucket seats, an upgrade over the standard seats, along with special-edition badges. These interior additions give the limited-production convertible further distinction beyond its exterior finish.
How Much Does the Japan-Exclusive Corvette Cost?
The Chevrolet Corvette V8 Tourer carries an asking price of 21,500,000 JPY, equivalent to about $136,000. Chevrolet Japan plans to sell only 15 units, all exclusively in Japan.
Compared with standard Corvette convertible models in the Japanese market, the special edition commands a premium of about $12,000. Buyers are paying for its limited availability and exclusive cosmetic and interior features, although the powertrain remains the 6.2-liter V8.
How the Japanese Corvette Compares With U.S. Models
The key difference between the V8 Tourer and the newer American-market C8 Corvettes is under the hood. While the Japanese special edition retains the 6.2-liter small-block V8, the 2027 model-year Corvettes in the United States feature the updated 6.7-liter V8.
That means American buyers get the newer engine, while Japanese customers receive a model distinguished primarily by its styling, cabin upgrades and limited production run. The V8 Tourer’s exclusive paint scheme, GT2 bucket seats and special badges provide its main points of differentiation.
For now, the V8 Tourer remains a Japan-only offering, with Chevrolet continuing to sell Corvettes equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 in that market. The newer 6.7-liter engine is expected to reach the Pacific market before long, according to the original report.
