Pioneer is bringing back the look of 1980s car audio with its new Heritage Collection, a lineup designed for classic-car enthusiasts who want period-correct styling without giving up modern features. The collection includes a box-style speaker inspired by a 1984 model and a single-DIN head unit that hides USB and auxiliary connections behind a simulated cassette deck door.

Pioneer Heritage Collection Revives 1980s Audio Design

The standout product in Pioneer’s Heritage Collection is the TS-X40SXT box speaker, which takes its design inspiration from the company’s original TS-X60 speaker introduced in 1984. Its silver finish, mesh grilles and Japanese box-style design are intended to complement the interiors of older vehicles.

The speaker can be mounted in different locations, but its styling may be best suited to a rear parcel shelf or the headliner above a cargo area. Positioned alongside speakers installed in the doors or dashboard, it is designed to create a more enveloping sound throughout the cabin.

The TS-X40SXT uses a bass-reflex, three-way configuration with a deep-profile woofer and two large-diameter tweeters. All three drivers feature cellulose-fiber cones designed to improve audio clarity and tone across the midrange and high frequencies.

With its rear-mounted placement and speakers directed toward vehicle occupants, the system is intended to deliver bass, midrange and treble that complement the existing audio setup.

Pioneer SXT-C10PS Brings Modern Features to a Retro Head Unit

Alongside the box speakers, Pioneer is introducing the SXT-C10PS, a single-DIN head unit with a minimalist faceplate and a single-color LED display. Its restrained design is intended to fit naturally into older vehicle dashboards while providing contemporary audio and connectivity options.

The head unit includes Bluetooth streaming, HD radio and SiriusXM capability. It also features USB-A and auxiliary inputs concealed behind a door designed to resemble a cassette deck.

Its red-orange illumination is designed to complement the interiors of several older vehicles, including the Porsche 928, BMW E30 3 Series, Mitsubishi Starion and Mazda RX-7.

The combination of retro styling and modern connectivity could also suit cars such as the Mazda Miata and classic Nissan Z models, particularly for owners building period-inspired interiors without giving up newer audio features.

Pioneer Heritage Collection Pricing and Availability

The SXT-C10PS head unit will cost $499, while each TS-X40SXT box speaker is priced at $299. Both products are available for preorder, with retail availability expected next month.

Pioneer will publicly unveil its Heritage Collection audio system at RADwood NorCal, a car show focused on automotive culture from the 1980s and 1990s.

The Japanese company serves as RADwood’s official sound partner, making the event a fitting venue to introduce audio equipment that combines vintage-inspired design with modern features.
