The Range Rover EV450 offers a lower-powered alternative to the brand’s all-electric luxury SUV, but American buyers won’t have access to it. With 444 horsepower, a 118.5 kWh battery and charging capabilities comparable to the more powerful EV550, the EV450 could provide a more affordable entry point into Range Rover’s electric lineup.
Range Rover EV450 vs. EV550: What’s the Difference?
The current Range Rover lineup offers several powertrain options, including an inline-six engine, two V8 engines, a plug-in hybrid and an all-electric variant. The electric Range Rover features a dual-motor setup producing 542 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, while delivering an estimated range of 333 miles.
For a luxury vehicle, smooth and abundant power is a key part of the experience. However, the Range Rover EV450, available in some markets, provides another option for buyers who don’t need as much performance.
In the United States, the available electric model is the EV550, which starts at $138,000. The EV450 produces 444 horsepower, making it less powerful but potentially more affordable.
Both versions use a 118.5 kWh battery, and quick calculations suggest the EV450 could deliver roughly the same driving range as the EV550. However, their charging estimates differ, with the EV550 supporting higher charging power.
Range Rover EV450 Charging Times
Despite the difference in charging capabilities, the two electric Range Rover models share similar fast-charging times under certain conditions.
At a 350 kW charging station, both models are estimated to charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. At a 150 kW station, that process takes approximately 38 minutes.
For American drivers charging away from home, 350 kW fast-charging stations are an option to look for.
Home charging presents a more noticeable difference between the two variants. The EV550 takes approximately seven hours to charge from 20% to 80% using an 11 kW AC charger, while the EV450 requires 13 hours under the same conditions.
Why the Range Rover EV450 Isn’t Coming to America
The electric vehicle market in the United States has been weaker than in other markets, which could help explain why Range Rover is limiting its American lineup to the higher-specification EV550.
Higher-trim models typically generate greater profits for automakers. In the luxury segment, where buyers are generally less sensitive to price, offering a more powerful and expensive electric model may make more business sense if EV sales are expected to remain limited.
Range Rover would ideally offer both electric variants, giving customers more choice. However, sales expectations are not the only consideration when bringing the EV450 to the United States.
Import costs also factor into the decision, along with the 15 percent tariffs on vehicle imports that continue to weigh on the automotive industry.
Could the Range Rover EV450 Come to the U.S.?
The EV450’s lower output and potentially lower starting price could make it an appealing alternative to the $138,000 EV550. Its shared battery capacity and comparable estimated range also suggest that buyers would not necessarily have to sacrifice much driving distance for the reduced power.
For now, American buyers are limited to the EV550, while the EV450 remains available in select markets outside the United States.
