The 2027 Kia Niro arrives with updated styling, upgraded technology, and additional driver-assistance features while retaining its hybrid powertrain. However, Kia is discontinuing the plug-in hybrid and all-electric versions, leaving the refreshed Niro available exclusively as a hybrid model when sales begin this summer.
2027 Kia Niro Receives Exterior Updates
The refreshed Niro builds on its existing design with a series of exterior revisions rather than a complete redesign. The front end adopts Kia’s Star Map lighting signature, replacing the previous winged trim element, while the front bumper and grille have been redesigned.
At the rear, the crossover receives a new liftgate, a revised bumper, and more angular taillights. Kia has retained the aerodynamic pass-through channels integrated behind the C-pillar.
The hybrid powertrain carries over unchanged. It pairs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to produce a combined 139 horsepower, sending power to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Cabin Technology Gets a Major Upgrade
The most significant changes appear inside the cabin. Every 2027 Niro now comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, replacing the previous standard 8-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included across the lineup.
The standard digital instrument cluster measures 4 inches, while a new optional 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is available. Kia also redesigned the steering wheel, updated the dashboard and center console, and replaced the previous rotary gear selector with a traditional shifter.
Expanded Standard Safety Features
The updated Niro adds several enhancements to its driver-assistance technology. The standard forward collision avoidance system now includes junction turning, cyclist detection, and direct-oncoming functionality.
Blind-spot monitoring warning, rear cross-traffic braking, and adaptive cruise control with lane-centering are also standard. The range-topping SX Touring trim adds a 360-degree camera system and Blind-Spot View Monitor, which displays a live camera view of the vehicle’s blind spots in the instrument cluster.
Sales Begin This Summer
Kia says the 2027 Niro will go on sale this summer. Pricing and EPA fuel economy ratings have not yet been announced.
The automaker expects the base price to increase slightly from the current Niro Hybrid’s starting price of $28,885, including destination. Kia also noted that it posted record-breaking sales during the first half of 2026, with hybrid sales rising 115%, while the Niro has continued its recent sales momentum.
