The Kia Vision Meta Turismo concept may represent more than a single future vehicle. A newly released design video not only revisits the development of Kia’s electric grand tourer but also briefly reveals an early station wagon-inspired version, suggesting the concept could support multiple body styles as the company continues exploring production possibilities.
Kia Revisits the Vision Meta Turismo Design Process
Kia first introduced the Vision Meta Turismo concept late last year as a spiritual successor to the Stinger GT. The all-electric grand tourer was presented as both a preview of the brand’s future design direction and a potential production model.
Earlier this year, CarBuzz examined the concept up close, describing its styling as featuring “a blunted, wedge-y front overhang that could’ve come out of Bertone in the 1970s.” At the time, Kia design chief Karim Habib said the company was “still trying to make that happen” when discussing the possibility of bringing the vehicle to production.
Design Team Shares the Creative Process
The new video takes viewers inside Kia’s design studio, where Habib, Kia Europe design chief Oliver Samson, and other members of the design team discuss the development of the Vision Meta Turismo.
According to the designers, the concept was created with a new generation of customers in mind. They also explain how the interior materials and additional experiences were developed for what they describe as the “gamer generation.”
Early Model Reveals a Wagon-Inspired Design
During the video, two scale models appear on a designer’s desk alongside sketches of the Vision Meta Turismo. Both models represent earlier stages of the design process and differ from the final concept.
One model, however, stands out because it retains many of the concept’s styling cues while adopting a different rear profile. Rather than sloping sharply behind the rear doors, the roofline extends farther back, giving the vehicle the appearance of a station wagon or shooting brake.
Although a pronounced cut into the doors creates the impression of a taller vehicle, the model’s proportions and ride height remain more consistent with a passenger car than a crossover or SUV. Kia’s current SUV lineup features a noticeably more rugged design language.
Production Questions Remain
The report notes that both the sedan and wagon versions could face challenges because the premium electric vehicle market is currently limited, particularly in North America and especially for Kia. Competing against premium brands while sharing showroom space with models such as the K4 and Seltos could prove difficult.
Even so, the Vision Meta Turismo continues to demonstrate Kia’s interest in developing a flagship model following the short-lived Stinger GT sedan. The appearance of multiple body styles in the design process suggests the company is continuing to explore different approaches as it evaluates the concept’s future.
