The 2027 Ram HD lineup introduces a major payload upgrade for select Ram 2500 models, along with new standalone equipment options and trim enhancements. While most of the heavy-duty pickup range carries over from 2026, Ram has increased payload and towing capabilities for certain configurations and expanded customization across multiple trims.
2027 Ram 2500 Receives New Payload Upgrade Package
The most significant update for the 2027 Ram Heavy Duty lineup is a new Payload Upgrade Package for Ram 2500 models equipped with the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8.
Depending on cab configuration, cargo box length, and drivetrain, standard payload for these trucks ranges from 2,730 to 3,930 pounds. With the new package, maximum payload increases to 4,580 pounds, representing an increase of up to 650 pounds over standard versions. Maximum towing capacity also rises to 17,740 pounds.
The package replaces the standard Ram 2500 chassis with the Ram 3500 frame and leaf springs instead of the five-link coil spring rear suspension. It also includes a limited-slip rear differential designed for the leaf spring suspension. The package is priced at $835 and is available on Tradesman, Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Limited, and Limited Longhorn trims.
Ram 3500 Gains Higher Payload and Towing Capacity
Ram is also increasing payload and towing capacity for select 2027 Ram 3500 models equipped with the 6.4-liter Hemi.
Configurations featuring an 8-foot cargo box with a Regular Cab or a 6.3-foot cargo box with a Crew Cab receive a 400-pound increase in payload and towing capacity. As a result, these models can tow up to 11,440 pounds, compared with 11,040 pounds for the 2026 model year.
New Standalone Equipment Options Across the Lineup
For 2027, Ram is expanding the availability of several options across its Heavy Duty lineup.
Ram 2500 Tradesman models can now be ordered with a limited-slip rear differential as a standalone option. Previously, the anti-spin differential required the Level 1 Equipment Group.
Rebel and Power Wagon models equipped with the 6.4-liter Hemi can now be fitted with the Warn winch without purchasing the Level 1 Equipment Group. Both trims also gain the sport performance hood as a standalone option, while Big Horn models receive the hood when equipped with the Night Edition or Sport Appearance packages.
Laramie models also add the RamBox option and body-color fender flares.
Mechanical Specifications Remain Largely Unchanged
Aside from the payload updates and the addition of the 6.7-liter turbodiesel I-6 Cummins option for the 2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon announced earlier this year, the 2027 Ram Heavy Duty lineup remains mechanically unchanged from 2026.
The lineup continues to offer configurations ranging from the Regular Cab with an 8-foot bed to the Mega Cab with a 6.3-foot bed. Buyers can choose rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive on all models except the Mega Cab, which comes standard with four-wheel drive.
Ram 2500 models continue to offer an automatic-leveling rear air suspension in place of the standard five-link rear suspension, while the Ram 3500 retains its supplemental rear air suspension system that assists the leaf springs.
Trims, Interior Features, and Availability
Returning trims for the 2027 model year include Tradesman, Black Express, Warlock, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited, and Limited Longhorn.
Standard interior equipment includes an analog instrument cluster, a 5.0-inch Uconnect infotainment display, and a four-speaker audio system in Regular Cab models. Crew Cab models receive a six-speaker sound system. Higher trims offer a 14.5-inch Uconnect infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch passenger display, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Ram said pricing for the 2027 Heavy Duty lineup will be announced soon. The trucks are expected to arrive at Ram dealerships in August.
