The BMW iX3 has reached a major production milestone, with the company’s Debrecen factory assembling the 50,000th Neue Klasse iX3 less than a year after series production began. The rapid increase in demand led BMW to introduce a second production shift ahead of schedule, helping the new Hungary-based plant expand output faster than originally planned.
BMW Debrecen Factory Hits First Major Milestone
Series production of the second-generation BMW iX3 began in late October 2025 at BMW’s new Debrecen factory in Hungary. Fewer than nine months later, the facility has produced its 50,000th vehicle, marking the first significant production milestone for the Neue Klasse electric SUV.
BMW said strong demand prompted the factory to add a second production shift earlier than expected. Since February, the facility has been operating double shifts well ahead of the original schedule.
Although producing 50,000 vehicles within nine months may appear modest, the achievement comes from an entirely new factory building a completely new model. According to BMW, the second-generation iX3 has recorded the fastest production ramp-up of any new model in BMW Group history.
Production Capacity and Growing Order Volume
Once operating at full capacity, the Debrecen plant will be capable of producing up to 150,000 vehicles annually. Before reaching that level, BMW is approaching 100,000 orders for the new electric SUV.
The iX3 lineup has also expanded beyond the dual-motor iX3 50 xDrive launch model with the addition of the rear-wheel-drive, single-motor iX3 40.
Additional BMW iX3 Variants Expected
BMW is also likely to introduce an iX3 40 xDrive, followed by an M Performance version in early 2027. The long-rumored iX3 M60 is not expected to be the only M-focused variant, as a full X3 M is also in development.
All iX3 models produced at the Debrecen factory feature the standard wheelbase, while the stretched-wheelbase version will be assembled in China.
Debrecen Plant to Add the BMW iX4
A second model is expected to join the Debrecen production line soon. The iX4, reportedly scheduled to debut in the coming months, is expected to enter production in November alongside the iX3.
The iX4 is expected to carry a slightly higher price than the iX3. While it is not expected to match the popularity of the conventionally styled iX3, spy shots suggest it will feature an even more pronounced coupe-SUV design.
BMW Expands iX3 Production Beyond Europe
In addition to production in Hungary and China, BMW plans to manufacture the iX3 in Mexico. Production at the San Luis Potosí plant is scheduled to begin in 2027, where the electric SUV will join the 2 Series Coupe and 3 Series Sedan on the assembly line.
The latest production milestone highlights the rapid expansion of BMW’s Neue Klasse iX3 program as the company continues increasing manufacturing capacity and preparing additional models for production.
