Volkswagen ID. Polo has officially gone on sale in Germany, giving buyers an entry-level electric vehicle that starts at €24,995. The model is considered one of Volkswagen’s most important recent launches as the automaker expands its EV lineup and responds to growing competition from electrified vehicles in Europe.
Volkswagen Launches Its Affordable Electric Hatchback
The Volkswagen ID. Polo made its world premiere just a few months ago with the goal of becoming one of Europe’s most affordable electric vehicles. Although the model is not expected to reach the U.S. market, it represents a key product for Volkswagen’s electric vehicle strategy.
Now available in Germany, the ID. Polo remains priced as promised. The entry-level Trend trim starts at €24,995, or approximately $28,500 based on current conversion rates.
For comparison, the article notes that the least expensive electric vehicle available in the United States is the Chevrolet Bolt, which starts at $28,995.
Three Trim Levels Available
The Volkswagen ID. Polo is offered in Trend, Life, and Style trims.
The base Trend model includes a range of driver assistance technologies, including blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and Emergency Assist, which can automatically move the vehicle to the side of the road if the driver becomes unresponsive after multiple prompts and warnings.
Standard equipment also includes a customizable 10-inch Digital Cockpit with MK. 1 Golf-inspired gauges, a 13-inch Innovision infotainment system, automatic climate control, and physical control buttons.
Battery, Charging, and Driving Range
The Trend model is powered by a single electric motor paired with a 37-kWh battery.
Volkswagen says the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 23 minutes at compatible DC fast-charging stations delivering up to 90 kW.
The entry-level model offers an estimated combined driving range of about 207 miles, while Volkswagen claims up to 285 miles in city driving.
Output is rated at 114 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque.
Higher Trims Increase Power and Range
Life and Style models are available with a larger 52-kWh battery that also increases performance and driving range.
These versions produce 133 horsepower and are rated for approximately 280 miles of range in mixed driving conditions and up to 370 miles in urban driving.
Volkswagen also offers a 208-horsepower version for buyers willing to spend more than €30,000.
Strong Early Demand in Germany
Volkswagen says the ID. Polo has already received more than 25,000 orders in Germany just weeks after reservations opened.
According to the company, the early response marks a positive result following previous challenges in selling electric vehicles. The report states that Volkswagen’s revised EV strategy appears to be benefiting the new hatchback.
