Ford is recalling 86,543 Mustang Mach-E vehicles after identifying a defect that could allow the rear side quarter window trim to detach while the vehicle is being driven. The recall affects 2023–2025 model-year Mustang Mach-E vehicles built between February 17, 2023, and October 8, 2024, and addresses a condition that could create a road hazard if the trim separates from the vehicle.
What Caused the Mustang Mach-E Recall?
Ford traced the issue to a supplier in Mexico, where a new assembly jig was introduced to speed up installation of the rear side quarter window trim. According to the company, the updated process reduced the primer’s curing time, which may have weakened the adhesive used to secure the trim.
As a result, the trim may loosen or detach while the vehicle is in motion.
Reports Received by Ford
According to the recall report, Ford had received 219 reports of loose or detached trim pieces on affected U.S. vehicles as of July this year. The automaker said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the condition.
Ford began investigating the issue after warranty claims increased in May 2026. After submitting a detached trim piece to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), investigators noted that its sharp edges could pose a hazard if the part became detached.
Warning Signs for Owners
Owners of affected Mustang Mach-E vehicles may notice several signs before the trim separates. These include trim that appears loose, as well as increased wind noise, squeaks, or rattles around the rear quarter windows.
Repair Process and Owner Notification
Ford dealers will inspect the rear quarter window trim and replace it if necessary at no cost to owners. The updated repair is intended to ensure the trim remains securely attached.
Dealers are scheduled to receive notification in early September 2026. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed between September 10 and September 14, 2026.
Beginning September 7, owners will also be able to check their vehicle identification number (VIN) online to determine whether their Mustang Mach-E is included in the recall.
