The Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric has delivered standout performance in recent testing, posting acceleration, braking, and handling results that surpassed every SUV previously tested by Car and Driver. The all-electric performance SUV also outpaced several high-performance sports cars, highlighting the capabilities of Porsche’s most powerful Cayenne.
Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric Exceeds Factory Estimates
Electric vehicles have continued to reshape performance benchmarks as models producing more than 1,000 horsepower become increasingly common. Porsche has now applied that performance to its all-electric Cayenne, with independent testing producing results beyond the manufacturer’s own projections.
According to Car and Driver, the range-topping Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric, equipped with a 1,140-horsepower dual-motor powertrain, accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 2.1 seconds. That time was quicker than Porsche’s estimated 2.4-second sprint.
Acceleration Outpaces SUV Rivals and Performance Cars
During Car and Driver’s testing, the Cayenne Turbo Electric outperformed several high-performance electric SUVs, including the tri-motor Rivian R1S, which reached 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, the Lucid Gravity Dream Edition at 3.1 seconds, and the non-Plaid Tesla Model X at 3.3 seconds.
The Porsche also finished one-tenth of a second quicker to 60 mph than both the Lamborghini Revuelto and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
Additional performance figures recorded during testing included:
- 0–100 mph in 4.5 seconds
- 0–150 mph in 10.1 seconds
- Quarter-mile in 9.5 seconds at 146 mph
Braking and Handling Set New Benchmarks
Despite weighing 5,960 pounds, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric demonstrated strong braking performance.
Equipped with the optional $10,900 carbon-ceramic brake package, the SUV stopped from 70 mph in 140 feet. That distance was 10 feet shorter than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and 12 feet shorter than the Lamborghini Urus Performante. The braking result also matched that of the significantly lighter Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
Handling performance was equally notable. The Cayenne Turbo Electric recorded 1.05 g on Car and Driver’s skidpad, establishing the publication’s highest roadholding figure for an SUV and surpassing the Lamborghini Urus Performante, which previously held the record at 1.04 g.
Pricing and Charging Features
The tested vehicle carried a sticker price of $194,600.
The Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric is built in Bratislava, Slovakia, and starts at $163,000 before destination charges. The entry-level model begins at $109,000.
In addition to its performance credentials, the all-electric SUV is available with an optional 11-kW wireless charging system that operates at up to 90% grid-to-battery efficiency.
A New Benchmark for Electric Performance SUVs
Based on Car and Driver’s testing, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric established new performance benchmarks for acceleration, braking, and handling among SUVs. Combined with its 1,140-horsepower dual-motor powertrain and available charging technology, the model delivers performance figures that exceed those of several established performance vehicles while setting a new standard within the SUV segment.
