Mazda 3 sales posted a significant increase in July 2026, standing out as Mazda’s strongest-performing model while nearly every SUV in the automaker’s lineup recorded lower sales. Although Mazda North America reported an overall year-over-year decline for the month, the company still achieved its third-best July sales total on record.
Mazda Reports Third-Best July Sales Despite Overall Decline
Mazda North America sold 39,180 vehicles in July 2026, representing a 13% decrease compared with the same month a year earlier. Even with that decline, the automaker recorded its third-highest July sales total ever.
The monthly results showed a notable shift in demand across Mazda’s lineup, with passenger cars outperforming most of the brand’s SUV models.
Mazda 3 Delivers the Brand’s Biggest Sales Increase
The Mazda 3 hatchback and sedan, which have been on sale for close to a decade, posted the largest sales increase of any model in Mazda’s lineup during July.
The performance mirrors a trend seen at Honda, where the Civic and Accord have also recently experienced higher sales.
CX-30 Stands Out Among Mazda SUVs
The CX-30 was the only SUV in Mazda’s lineup to record a sales increase in July. Like the Mazda 3, the CX-30 is one of the company’s more affordable models, with a starting price below $27,000.
Meanwhile, the CX-50 continued to closely match the newer-generation CX-5 in sales performance.
The standard Mazda CX-90 MHEV also achieved its best July sales result ever, although overall sales of the three-row CX-90, including the hybrid variant, were lower.
Upcoming Mazda Models Could Support Future Sales
Mazda’s current lineup is not as new as some competing brands, but several upcoming models are expected to strengthen the company’s position.
A next-generation CX-30 is expected to launch in initial markets in 2027 with a hybrid powertrain, a feature not offered on the current model.
The all-new CX-5 is also expected to receive a more efficient hybrid powertrain in 2027.
In addition, a new generation of the Mazda 3 is expected to arrive at a future date. Mazda has already introduced a hybrid powertrain for the current Mazda 3, but it is currently available only in Japan.
Focus on Affordable Models
The upcoming vehicles in Mazda’s sub-$40,000 lineup have the potential to bring the company’s design language and driving dynamics to a new generation of buyers while expanding its range of affordable models.
July’s results highlighted strong demand for the Mazda 3 and the CX-30, even as overall sales declined and most SUV models posted lower year-over-year performance.
