Ford has revealed the name and starting price of its upcoming affordable electric pickup truck, introducing the new Ford Fathom with a starting MSRP of $28,350. The midsize electric truck is part of the automaker’s effort to deliver lower-cost EVs while offering technology typically found in more expensive models.
Ford Introduces the Fathom Name
Ford selected the name Fathom for its new midsize electric pickup after considering, but ultimately not choosing, Ranchero.
In its press release, the company highlighted two definitions of the word. As a noun, a fathom is a unit of measurement equal to six feet that is commonly used to measure water depth. As a verb, it means “to measure the depth of” or “to come to understand.”
Ford said the name reflects the idea of depth beneath the surface and the process of developing an affordable electric truck.
Starting Price and Availability
The Ford Fathom will carry a starting MSRP of $28,350. Including the $1,595 destination fee, the starting price rises to $29,945.
The entry-level model will be equipped with a standard-range battery. Ford has not confirmed driving range figures, although the report notes buyers likely should not expect more than 300 miles of range for the base version.
Pre-orders are scheduled to open sometime in early 2027. The report also notes that pricing could change before then.
Technology Comes Standard
Ford said every version of the Fathom will include the hardware required for its next-generation BlueCruise capability, allowing hands-off, eyes-on driving on certain freeways.
The company also confirmed the truck will feature Apple Maps, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a digital key, and bi-directional power capability as standard equipment.
According to the report, Ford intends for the Fathom to offer more than simply an electric version of the Maverick, despite its affordable price.

The Fathom is expected to become part of Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle program.
