Mercedes-AMG has teased another new model as the performance division continues expanding its lineup, with five new AMG models joining the range in eight months. The unnamed crossover appears to have a fastback profile and could be a GT SUV, although AMG has not confirmed its identity or announced a premiere date.
Mercedes-AMG Continues Its Rapid Model Expansion
Mercedes-Benz is aiming to increase sales and reclaim its sales crown after spending years behind BMW. The company has introduced several all-new and updated models this year, with AMG and Maybach also contributing to the expanded lineup.
AMG has been particularly active. Earlier this year, the division introduced the GT 4-Door and brought six-cylinder power back to the GLC with the GLC 53.
AMG also reaffirmed its commitment to V8 power with the new GLE 63 and GLS 63. More recently, the CLA 45 made its world premiere as a baby GT 4-Door.
More models are also on the way, including the updated S 63 and the CLE 63 Mythos.
New AMG Model Teased Without a Name
The latest teaser marks the fifth new AMG model to join the lineup in eight months. While some launches were expected, the next world premiere appears to be more of a surprise.
Mercedes-AMG recently posted a teaser of the new model on its social media accounts. The vehicle does not yet have a name, and no launch date has been locked in.
The silhouette beneath the cover has prompted speculation that the vehicle could be a GT SUV. While that has not been confirmed, the visible roof rails indicate that the vehicle is a crossover.
What the AMG Teaser Reveals
AMG has not confirmed whether the vehicle is the GT SUV, but its side profile suggests a fastback body. The taillights also appear to connect the design with the GT 4-Door.
If the vehicle is the GT SUV, it could be based on the 4-Door model and use the AMG.EA architecture. In that case, it could benefit from axial-flux batteries and a tri-motor arrangement in its most powerful configuration.
An entry-level dual-motor version could also be possible, similar to the GT 53 4-Door with at least 536 hp. The 63 version, however, could potentially produce more than 1,000 hp.
AMG GT SUV Reveal Still Ahead
The vehicle remains covered for now, with its name, specifications and premiere date still undetermined. With Mercedes-AMG having already released a teaser, the full reveal could arrive within weeks or even days.
