Ford has officially named its next affordable electric pickup the Fathom, confirming a $28,350 starting price, new technology and plans to begin production in 2027. The automaker has not yet revealed the production truck’s exterior design, leaving its final appearance undisclosed.

The Ford Fathom will be the first vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle platform, a cost-focused architecture designed to make electric vehicles substantially more affordable.
Ford says the electric pickup will start at $28,350 before destination charges, placing it close to the company’s gasoline and hybrid-powered Maverick. The 2026 Ford Maverick starts at $28,595, according to Ford’s current specifications.
Ford describes the Fathom as a midsize electric truck, but its proportions are expected to occupy roughly the same compact footprint as the Maverick. The truck is expected to feature a relatively short hood, an upright cabin and a practical pickup bed rather than the larger dimensions associated with the F-150.
Ford has also confirmed seating for five, a frunk and a large touchscreen. Those features position the Fathom as an everyday vehicle rather than a stripped-down electric work truck.
Ford Fathom Design and Technology
Ford has not shown the production exterior, but the Fathom’s expected design could feature a simple front fascia in place of a traditional grille, along with slim LED headlights and a sculpted, relatively upright body.
A high beltline, short overhangs and substantial wheel arches would give the pickup the stance expected of an American truck while keeping its size within a compact footprint.
Practicality is also a key part of the Fathom’s technology package. Ford has confirmed bidirectional power capability, allowing the truck to potentially supply electricity to external equipment.
Every Fathom will also be capable of supporting Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available as well.
When Will the Ford Fathom Reach Dealerships?
Production of the Ford Fathom is scheduled to begin at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky in 2027, with preorders expected to open early that year.
