Chrysler is preparing to expand beyond its Pacifica minivan with two new entry-level vehicles designed to bring affordable options back to the struggling brand. The Chrysler Arrow will be a compact fastback, while the Arrow Cross will be a small SUV, with both expected to start below $30,000.

The two models are based on the Fiat Grizzly Fastback and Fiat Grizzly compact SUV. Stellantis plans to build the vehicles in Morocco and homologate them for export to North America, with the Chrysler versions expected to arrive in the region in 2028.

Chrysler Needs More Than One Model

The Arrow and Arrow Cross are intended to address one of Chrysler’s biggest challenges: its dependence on a single model. The brand currently relies heavily on the Pacifica, making additional affordable vehicles essential for attracting customers into dealerships.

Stellantis hopes the new entry-level models can bring new buyers to Chrysler before eventually moving them into higher-priced vehicles such as the Pacifica or into other Stellantis brands, including Jeep, Dodge and Ram.

The Arrow twins will start at less than $30,000 and join the Airflow midsize crossover as part of Chrysler’s effort to target buyers seeking practical, functional and affordable vehicles. Market research cited in the article indicates that this group represents 35% of buyers.

The strategy also gives Chrysler a clearer identity while allowing Dodge to concentrate on muscle and performance vehicles. The separation is intended to reduce overlap between the two brands, which share showroom space.

Stellantis Wants Chrysler to Survive

Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa has strongly supported the continuation of the Chrysler brand. According to Filosa, Chrysler is profitable and primarily needs additional models and greater volume.

However, the brand represented only 10% of U.S. sales in 2025, and its sales have declined further following the loss of the Voyager minivan. Chrysler has also discontinued the plug-in version of the Pacifica.

Chrysler Arrow Twins Will Use Fiat’s Smart Car Platform

The Chrysler Arrow and Arrow Cross will be based on the European Smart Car platform used by the Fiat Grizzly models. The platform is unrelated to the Benz-Swatch Smart city car.

The Fiat versions are offered with internal-combustion engines, mild-hybrid powertrains and battery-electric power. The Chrysler models are expected to initially use a gasoline engine for the base version, along with a mild-hybrid option.

1.2-Liter Turbo Could Power Base Models

The Fiat Grizzly models use a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine could provide a lower-cost option for the Chrysler lineup, although the article notes that its output may not be sufficient for American consumers.

Stellantis also has a new 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine that supports hybridization. The turbocharged four-cylinder is intended for broader use in future compact and midsize vehicles across the company’s product portfolio.

That engine could provide more powerful versions of the Arrow twins, while a fully electric variant could arrive later as Stellantis continues to monitor demand for EVs in North America.

Chrysler Arrow Expected in North America in 2028

Fiat will produce the Grizzly models at Stellantis’ manufacturing plant in Morocco, with their launch planned for later this year across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The Chrysler versions will receive styling inspired by the updated Pacifica and will require additional engineering and restyling before they can meet U.S. standards.

That process is expected to push the Chrysler Arrow and Arrow Cross to North America in 2028. If the plan remains on schedule, the two affordable models will give Chrysler a broader lineup and a new entry point for buyers who may not be ready to spend significantly more on larger vehicles.
