Audi has surprised the automotive world with the Nuvolari, a limited-production supercar that carries the spirit of the R8 into a new era. Although it does not wear the R8 name, the car is clearly positioned as a spiritual successor to Audi’s iconic supercar.

The R8’s Successor Takes Shape

The Nuvolari is built on the same underlying platform as the Lamborghini Temerario, following a formula similar to the one used by the R8. The first-generation R8 shared its foundations with the Lamborghini Gallardo, while the second-generation model was based on the Huracan.

Unlike the R8, however, the Nuvolari will not be produced as a mass-market model. Audi plans to build just 499 examples, making the car an exceptionally limited collectible.

Nuvolari Makes Its U.S. Debut

The Nuvolari is set to make its U.S. premiere at The Quail during Monterey Car Week this Friday. The car will also be displayed to the public at the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, giving enthusiasts another opportunity to see Audi’s latest supercar in person.

With only 499 cars planned worldwide, demand is expected to make allocations highly competitive. Many markets may receive only a small number of examples, while others may not receive one at all.

Audi Completed the Project in Just 405 Days

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Nuvolari is how quickly Audi developed it. The entire project was completed in just 405 days, or less than 14 months.

During that time, Audi assembled teams, developed the design, tested the car and prepared it for its world premiere. The speed of the development process makes the Nuvolari project particularly notable within the automotive industry.

More Than a Lamborghini Temerario With an Audi Design

While the Nuvolari shares its underpinnings with the Lamborghini Temerario, Audi has given the car its own identity. The article describes it as more exclusive and more powerful than its Lamborghini counterpart, with a combined output of 987 horsepower.

That figure gives the Nuvolari an 80-horsepower advantage over the Lamborghini, further separating Audi’s limited-run supercar from the model that serves as its foundation.

Production Starts This Year

Production of the Audi Nuvolari is scheduled to begin later this year, with customer deliveries expected to start in 2027.

Given the extremely limited production run, the Nuvolari could sell out before the first batch of cars is completed. For enthusiasts fortunate enough to secure one of the 499 examples, the bigger question may be whether these rare supercars will eventually be driven on the road or taken to the track rather than simply preserved as collectibles.
