The Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana will enter the 2027 model year with a long-overdue technology upgrade. After years of relying on outdated audio systems, both vans are finally set to receive a seven-inch touchscreen and GM’s Infotainment System 3, although most of their underlying formula remains unchanged.

Chevy Express and GMC Savana Get a Seven-Inch Screen

According to GM Authority, both the Express and Savana will gain GM’s Infotainment System 3 paired with a seven-inch HD color touchscreen.

Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming are confirmed for the system. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM and USB connectivity have not yet been confirmed for the 2027 model year.

The addition marks a significant change for vans that have largely gone without factory touchscreens despite the technology becoming available in cars as far back as 1986. Both briefly offered a factory touchscreen in 2019, but the option disappeared the following year.

Almost Nothing Else Changes for 2027

The new touchscreen stands out partly because so little else about the Express and Savana has changed. The GMC Savana has remained mostly unchanged since its launch in 1996, while the current vans continue to use the same basic formula.

For 2026, the Savana uses a standard 4.3-liter V6 producing 276 horsepower and 298 lb-ft of torque. An available 6.6-liter V8 produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

The Chevrolet Express uses the same engine lineup and drivetrain.

For 2027, the Savana will also receive four speakers in Passenger models and Crew Vans. Standard Cargo and Cutaway models will continue with two speakers.

Recalls Highlight the Vans’ Age

The Express and Savana are also dealing with recalls involving some 2026 models. Certain Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans were recalled over a transmission gear-selection defect, while more than 26,000 were recalled because of a loose nut in the steering gear assembly.

Express and Savana Finally Catch Up on Infotainment

The touchscreen upgrade gives the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana a more modern feature inside their aging cabins, even though the rest of the vans remain largely familiar.

For 2027, GM is addressing one of the most obvious shortcomings of both vans by bringing a seven-inch infotainment screen to the lineup. The Express and Savana may retain their longstanding design and mechanical formula, but their infotainment systems are finally taking a small step toward the modern era.
