Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted that something “way cooler than a minivan” is coming after a brand fan urged the company on X to build one. While Musk offered no details, the comment has sparked speculation about what a high-passenger-density Tesla vehicle could look like.

Tesla’s “Way Cooler” Vehicle

In response to the post on X, Musk replied, “Something way cooler than a minivan is coming.” The statement leaves the vehicle’s identity unclear, but it has prompted the idea of a retro-futuristic Tesla designed around passenger capacity and technology.

The imagined vehicle would take a distinctly futuristic approach, with a design that could fit into a sci-fi film. The concept envisions a large vehicle with a boxy body, large doors on both sides and a sloped front inspired by the Tesla Semi.

Tesla’s Earlier Plans for High Passenger Density

Ten years ago, Tesla outlined “Master Plan, Part Deux,” identifying heavy-duty trucks and “high passenger-density urban transport” as two categories suited to electrification.

The Tesla Semi is already on the road, although it is not yet in full production. The other category could point toward a larger passenger vehicle, potentially taking the form of a minivan-style vehicle with a more futuristic approach.

A Living Room on Wheels

The envisioned Tesla would be large enough to accommodate a high number of passengers, while the company’s heavy bet on Full Self Driving could allow the interior to function more like a living room on wheels.

The design includes windows extending well into the roofline, although the amount of glass could be limited if the vehicle is intended to operate as a mobile entertainment center.

The interior concept also imagines a vehicle suited to longer trips, including the drive between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, with streaming entertainment available during the journey. The design would prioritize a spacious passenger experience over a smaller two-door vehicle such as the Cybercab.

Electric Vans Are Already Evolving

Even if Tesla does not enter the “way-cooler-than-a-minivan” market, electric vans are already becoming more sophisticated.

The Mercedes VLE-Class has already received its first drive as an executive or family transport vehicle with numerous seating configuration options and an optional massive movie screen.

Mercedes also plans a larger VLS electric van that will offer further upgrades and a Maybach version. On the internal-combustion side, Ram is bringing back a bigger ProMaster City, while a luxury-oriented transport version remains a possibility.

What Musk’s Comment Means

For now, Musk’s response provides no specific details about the vehicle beyond the claim that something “way cooler than a minivan” is coming. The imagined Tesla vehicle represents one possible interpretation of the company’s earlier reference to “high passenger-density urban transport,” while other automakers are already developing increasingly advanced vans.
