The Genesis GV90 marks the brand’s entry into the full-size electric SUV segment, bringing a new flagship with advanced technology, distinctive design and a focus on luxury and comfort. The model will be offered as the standard GV90 and the more premium GV90 Neolun, with the 2028 GV90 scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in early 2027.

A New Genesis Flagship

Genesis has strong momentum, having surpassed Infiniti in U.S. sales last year. Its latest move takes the luxury brand into the full-size electric SUV segment, where models such as the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV compete.

The GV90 closely follows the Neolun concept unveiled in 2024. While some concept features, including camera-based side mirrors, have been replaced with conventional production components, the flagship retains a futuristic appearance and a wide range of technologies.

GV90 Design and Unique Doors

Built on the eMP platform developed exclusively for Genesis flagships, the GV90 features exterior styling inspired by Korea’s traditional moon jar pottery. Its body measures 5,285 millimeters, or 208.1 inches, in length and takes a minimalist approach.

The exterior also features Wing Face Micro Lens Array headlamps and available 24-inch forged wheels.

One of the GV90 Neolun’s most distinctive features is its rear-hinged coach doors with hidden B-pillars. Removing the fixed B-pillars creates a wider opening, while the front seats can swivel 180 degrees to create a lounge-like cabin.

Genesis says the structural design still meets its highest safety standards. The GV90 is equipped with 12 airbags, including what Genesis calls the world’s first roof airbag, which is designed to provide protection during severe rollover events.

An in-cabin monitoring system also identifies occupant type and seating position to optimize airbag and seatbelt operation during collisions.

A Luxury-Focused Interior

The GV90 combines its unusual exterior design with a long list of premium cabin features. The seats have 15 individual air cells and a pulse-vibration function, while the audio system is a Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D setup with 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos.

Other features include Ambient Glow mood lighting and acoustic glass exceeding 5 millimeters in thickness on all windows.

The four-seat GV90 Neolun Executive Suite adds a six-zone Smart Vision Roof, privacy blinds, integrated tables and a refrigerator.

A Start Button-Free Driving Experience

The GV90 also changes the conventional process of starting the vehicle. Instead of a start button, it uses a New Power Control System that automatically activates when a passenger pulls a door handle.

The door then closes automatically, while the Motion Column Shifter moves from the 12 o’clock to the 2 o’clock position, another distinctive element carried over from the Neolun concept. Pressing the brake pedal makes the vehicle ready to drive.

A pop-up center OLED Cinematic Display combines the instrument cluster, navigation and media functions. The screen measures 23.6 inches during normal driving. When the vehicle is parked, pressing the display-extension button raises the screen by 90 millimeters, or 3.5 inches, expanding it to 24.6 inches.

The technology package also includes Hyundai Motor Group’s next-generation Pleos Connect infotainment platform with the Gleo AI generative-AI assistant, a 25-inch head-up display and Remote Smart Parking Assist 3.

GV90 Battery, Power and Range

The GV90 uses a 123.5-kilowatt-hour high-voltage battery, the largest capacity among Hyundai Motor Group EVs such as the Hyundai Ioniq 9.

The battery powers a dual-motor setup with one motor at the front and another at the rear. Combined output reaches 490 kW, or 657 horsepower, with 800 Nm, or 590 lb-ft, of torque.

That output is below the most powerful versions of some rivals, including the Lucid Gravity GT-S, which produces more than 1,000 hp. The GV90, however, appears focused on refinement and comfort rather than outright performance.

Based on internal R&D testing, the seven-seat version achieved an estimated range of approximately 500 kilometers, or 310 miles. Using a 350-kW fast charger, charging from 10% to 80% takes about 22 minutes.

Suspension and Drivetrain Technology

The GV90 comes with four-piston monobloc front calipers with large-diameter pistons, high-capacity brake discs and a multi-chamber air suspension.

It also features Hyundai Motor Group’s first Dual E-LSD system. With an electronic limited-slip differential mounted at each axle, the system distributes each motor’s output between the wheels according to driving conditions.

GV90 Colors and U.S. Availability

Genesis will offer the GV90 in 16 exterior colors and five interior color combinations. The GV90 Neolun will also have five exclusive interior schemes, while the company has unveiled the Neolun First Edition in three color combinations.

Genesis has not disclosed pricing for the GV90. The 2028 GV90 is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in early 2027.

The G90 sedan is currently Genesis’ most expensive model, with a starting price of $92,700 before destination charges. The GV90 is positioned as the brand’s flagship, while smaller models such as the GV60, GV70 and GV80 already occupy other parts of the lineup.

The new electric SUV represents Genesis’ broader move upmarket, adding a full-size flagship to its lineup while giving the brand another vehicle aimed at established luxury competitors.
