A new Dodge Durango recall covers 74,578 SUVs from the 2021 to 2023 model years after Stellantis found that some vehicles can still experience rear spoiler detachments, including some that previously received recall repairs.

Why Stellantis Issued Another Recall

The issue involves liftgate spoilers that can loosen and detach from the vehicle, potentially creating road debris. Stellantis first addressed the problem in late 2021 with a recall covering certain 2021 Durango SUVs, followed by a larger recall in early 2023 involving additional 2021-2023 models.

However, some Durangos that had already received the earlier repair continued to experience spoiler problems. After receiving reports of spoilers detaching despite previous recall repairs, Stellantis launched another investigation in March 2026.

The automaker determined that the problem involves the fit of the spoiler on certain vehicles. Some Durangos left the factory with the spoiler positioned too close to the roof, allowing it to make contact with the vehicle each time the liftgate is opened or closed.

Repeated contact can eventually cause the spoiler to loosen and detach.

Which Dodge Durangos Are Affected?

The recall covers 2021, 2022 and 2023 Dodge Durango SUVs built between July 13, 2020, and March 28, 2023. A total of 74,578 vehicles are included.

Owners may notice warning signs before the spoiler becomes detached. These can include the sound of the spoiler striking the vehicle body when the liftgate is opened or closed, as well as rattling from the rear while driving if the spoiler has already begun to loosen.

A detached spoiler can become road debris and create a potential hazard for other vehicles. Stellantis reviewed warranty claims, customer complaints and service reports as part of its investigation.

No Crashes or Injuries Reported

By the end of last month, Stellantis had identified eight customer assistance records, 116 warranty claims and 37 additional service records potentially related to spoiler detachments.

According to NHTSA recall documents, Stellantis said it was not aware of any crashes or injuries connected to the issue.

What Dodge Durango Owners Should Do

Owners will not have to pay for the recall repair, but Stellantis is still developing the proper fix. Once the solution is ready, affected Durangos will receive the new repair.

Dealers were expected to receive information by August 20, 2026, while owners are scheduled to begin receiving recall letters in September. VIN lookups also went live on August 20.

Until the repair is available, owners should pay attention to unusual noises from the rear of the SUV, particularly when opening or closing the liftgate. A spoiler that appears loose or repeatedly contacts the roof should prompt owners to contact a Dodge dealer and check whether their vehicle is included in the recall once the VIN tool is available.

Owners whose Durango spoilers were repaired during an earlier recall should also check the new campaign. Stellantis said the latest recall includes vehicles that may continue to have the problem even after previous repairs.
