Hyundai has officially revealed the first specifications for the next-generation Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, giving the SUV more power, torque and claimed fuel efficiency. The details appeared in Hyundai Motor Group’s latest strategy presentation, alongside announcements covering an extended-range Santa Fe, Genesis EREV plans and new Hyundai N performance models.

Next-Generation Tucson Hybrid Specs Revealed

Hyundai says the new Tucson Hybrid’s 1.6-liter powertrain produces a combined 245 metric horsepower, or 242 hp, and 280 lb-ft of torque. The company claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds and achieve fuel efficiency of 17.4 km/L, equivalent to about 41 mpg in the U.S.

The new specifications represent an increase over the current 2026 Tucson Hybrid in the U.S., which produces 231 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque from its 1.6-liter turbo hybrid powertrain. The EPA rates the current model at 38 mpg combined for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions.

  • Next Tucson Hybrid: 242 hp
  • 2026 Tucson Hybrid (U.S.): 231 hp
  • Next Tucson Hybrid: 280 lb-ft
  • 2026 Tucson Hybrid (U.S.): 271 lb-ft
  • Next Tucson Hybrid: 0-62 mph in 8.5 seconds
  • 2026 Tucson Hybrid (U.S.): Not officially listed by Hyundai
  • Next Tucson Hybrid: 17.4 km/L claimed, about 41 mpg U.S.
  • 2026 Tucson Hybrid (U.S.): 38 mpg combined, EPA estimate

Fuel Economy Figures Require a Closer Look

Hyundai’s 17.4 km/L figure and the current Tucson Hybrid’s 38 mpg rating were not measured using the same testing system. The 17.4 km/L figure is Hyundai’s own claim from the presentation, while the 38 mpg figure is the official EPA rating for U.S. models.

As a result, the two figures should not be directly compared until official ratings for the new Tucson Hybrid are available.

Gas-Powered Tucson Continues

Hyundai also says the new Tucson Hybrid delivers 27% more power, 43% more torque, a one-second reduction in the 0-to-62-mph sprint and a 43% improvement in fuel efficiency compared with the regular 1.6-liter gasoline Tucson.

Based on those figures, the regular Tucson produces around 190 metric horsepower, or 187 hp, and 196 lb-ft of torque.

That means Hyundai will continue offering the gasoline-powered Tucson alongside the hybrid rather than moving the model entirely toward electrification. Buyers will have a choice between the turbocharged gas SUV and the more powerful hybrid version.

A Key Model for Hyundai

The new Tucson arrives after Hyundai recently revealed the SUV with a significantly bolder exterior design drawn from the brand’s latest design approach. While the redesigned front end has attracted attention, the newly disclosed powertrain specifications provide a closer look at what is changing beneath the surface when the new model goes global later this year.

The Tucson remains an important vehicle for Hyundai. The company says it has sold more than 10 million Tucson models worldwide, making it Hyundai’s seventh best-selling vehicle ever and the company’s top seller in its current lineup.

With additional power, quicker claimed acceleration and a substantial fuel-efficiency improvement claim, the next-generation Tucson Hybrid brings a significant powertrain update to one of Hyundai’s key models while the regular gasoline version remains available.
