General Motors is addressing a quality-control issue affecting certain Chevrolet vehicles after some 2026 Blazer, 2026-2027 Colorado, and 2026 Silverado 1500 models were shipped with improperly tightened oil filters that could lead to oil leaks.
Loose Oil Filters Affect Certain Chevrolet Models
According to a report from GM Authority, some Chevrolet Silverado 1500s, Colorados and Blazers left the production facility with loose oil filters. The issue occurred because the filters were not tightened enough during production, potentially allowing oil to leak from the affected vehicles.
A GM service bulletin issued in August states that the affected vehicles may have been shipped with an improperly torqued oil filter, meaning the filter was not tightened properly during production.
However, the bulletin provides limited details about the scope of the issue. It identifies only “certain models” of the 2026 Blazer, 2026-2027 Colorado and 2026 Silverado 1500 as affected.
GM Has Not Specified the Number of Affected Vehicles
The bulletin does not state how many vehicles from those production dates are affected. Authorized dealerships must first check each vehicle’s VIN to determine whether it is included.
The bulletin also does not specify which engines or production plants were involved in the issue.
Dealerships Can Fix the Oil Filter Issue
The repair process is straightforward. Dealership technicians will inspect the oil filter, and if it is loose, tighten it to the required specification.
If oil has already seeped out because of the loose filter, the technician will tighten the filter and top up the oil to the required level.
