The 2027 New Generation Black Cab is coming to the U.K., with the London EV Company (LEVC) confirming that its next-generation electric taxi will launch in the second half of 2027.

LEVC Confirms Next-Generation Black Cab

LEVC, the producer of London’s iconic black cab, said the new generation has been engineered and designed from the ground up to meet the Metropolitan Conditions of Fitness established by Transport for London.

Although the full design has yet to be revealed, LEVC has offered a preview showing that the next-generation cab retains the familiar shape associated with the black cab, while introducing subtle changes primarily at the front and rear.

LEVC said it developed the new cab with the needs of drivers, passengers, fleet operators and cities at its core. The company also describes itself as the only purpose-built, fully accessible electric taxi builder.

New Black Cab Focuses on Accessibility and Durability

Exact details and specifications for the new-generation black cab remain under wraps. However, LEVC said development of the vehicle is focused on accessibility and durability.

The current model, known as the TX range-extended electric taxi, was launched in 2018. Since then, LEVC has sold more than 12,000 TX taxis worldwide.

TX Taxi’s Reported Emissions Impact

According to LEVC, the TX powertrain has prevented more than 450* million kilograms of CO2 from entering the atmosphere and has reduced NOx emissions in London’s taxi fleet by 60%.

Chinese manufacturing giant Geely is one of LEVC’s major investors. In 2013, Geely invested more than $1.3 billion (converted) in the cab maker, helping support LEVC’s continued commitment to the future of the UK taxi industry.

With the second half of 2027 confirmed for its U.K. launch, the next-generation black cab will succeed the TX range-extended electric taxi while retaining the recognizable form of London’s iconic cab.
