GM is recalling 306,511 Chevrolet and Buick SUVs and crossovers because their rearview cameras may display a distorted image or fail to show an image at all when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, potentially removing an important safety feature.
Which GM Vehicles Are Recalled?
The recall covers vehicles built between April and December 2024, along with a small number of early 2026 models. The affected vehicles include several Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer models as well as the Buick Envista and Encore GX.
- 2025 Chevrolet Trax: 159,821 units
- 2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer: 73,665 units
- 2024-2025 Buick Envista: 41,323 units
- 2024-2026 Buick Encore GX: 30,852 units
- 2024 and limited 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer: 850 additional units
Adhesive Problem Can Affect the Backup Camera
According to the recall document, the problem is linked to the adhesive used during camera assembly. GM says a plasma-cleaning step during production may have weakened the adhesive holding the camera together.
As a result, moisture or grime can enter the camera over time, potentially causing the rearview image to become fuzzy or disappear completely.
GM began investigating complaints about failed backup cameras last year. Although there was no clear pattern initially, the investigation was reopened this year after additional complaints were reported. More than 33,000 complaints were linked to vehicles built during the affected production period.
No Crashes or Injuries Reported
A malfunctioning rearview camera can prevent drivers from seeing what is behind the vehicle while reversing, increasing the possibility of backing into an object.
GM said there have been no crashes or injuries associated with the issue so far.
GM Has a Repair Available
GM has already developed a remedy for the affected vehicles. Dealers will inspect the rearview camera and replace it when necessary with a part from a different batch.
Dealers have been notified, and GM has begun sending recall notices to vehicle owners. Some owners will receive repair invitations immediately, while others will be notified to wait until additional parts become available.
Owners of a 2024–2026 Buick Encore GX or Envista, 2024–2025 Chevrolet Trailblazer, or 2025 Chevrolet Trax can check whether their vehicle is affected by entering its VIN into GM’s recall site or the NHTSA lookup tool.
Until the repair is completed, drivers should watch for blurry images, flickering or a rearview screen that goes dark when shifting into reverse. GM says owners who notice these problems should take their vehicle to a dealer for a free repair.
