The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has added a Guinness World Record to its growing list of achievements after completing a global journey that covered six continents, 92 countries and 99,767 kilometers (61,992 miles) over 445 days.

Six Continents, 92 Countries and 445 Days

On July 1, 2025, Rainer Zietlow departed from Volkswagen’s Hanover plant in a long-wheelbase ID. Buzz Pro identical to the models available for purchase. Over the following 445 days, he traveled 99,767 kilometers (61,992 miles) across 92 countries and every continent except Antarctica.

The journey included 16 sea crossings by container ship and more than 300 charging cycles. Zietlow returned to Hanover on September 14, securing the Guinness World Record for the most countries visited in a continuous journey by a battery-powered electric vehicle.

The vehicle completed the journey without any technical issues. TUV inspected the ID. Buzz before and after the trip, with its battery health measured at 95.75% after the demanding journey.

What the Journey Revealed About Global EV Charging

Alongside highlighting the ID. Buzz’s reliability, Zietlow offered observations about electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the countries he visited.

Africa presented a mixed picture. Zietlow said charging infrastructure in Morocco, Rwanda and South Africa was adequate, while “in countries such as Zambia or Tanzania, there was simply nothing available.”

South America, meanwhile, is making rapid progress, with Brazil and Chile described as particularly accommodating to electric mobility. Zietlow also noted that Saudi Arabia had advanced significantly in just a few years.

China stood out in particular, with Zietlow saying it “is in a league of its own” when it comes to EV infrastructure.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz Completes Record-Setting Journey

The record-setting journey adds another notable milestone to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz story. After traveling across 92 countries and nearly 100,000 kilometers, the electric minivan returned to Hanover with its battery health still measured at 95.75%.
