BMW has finished production of the second-generation BMW M2 CS, with 2,882 examples of the G87-chassis model built. That is more than the 2,200 F87-chassis M2 CS cars produced before production ended in 2020, but the latest model remains a highly limited production car.

Detailed production data from MDataWorks also reveals the most popular specifications, how many cars received carbon ceramic brakes and Ultra Track tires, and where the first M2 CS was delivered.

BMW M2 CS Production Reaches 2,882 Cars

According to MDataWorks, BMW built a total of 2,882 G87-chassis BMW M2 CS models. The figure exceeds the 2,200 examples of the previous F87-chassis M2 CS, but the second-generation car was still produced in limited numbers.

Velvet Blue was the most popular color, accounting for 1,320 cars. It was the slightly more purple of the two available blue colors and the only paint option that carried an extra cost.

BMW built 858 M2 CS models in Black Sapphire, while 461 were finished in Brooklyn Grey. Only 243 cars received Portimao Blue.

Carbon Ceramic Brakes Were Chosen by 1,282 Buyers

Despite the M2 CS focus on Competition and Sport, fewer than half of buyers selected the carbon ceramic brake option. A total of 1,282 cars were equipped with carbon ceramic brakes.

Velvet Blue was again the most common configuration among cars with carbon ceramic brakes, with 667 examples. Black Sapphire accounted for 347 cars, while 175 were finished in Brooklyn Grey.

Portimao Blue was the rarest major configuration with carbon ceramic brakes. BMW built only 93 Portimao Blue cars with the option, compared with 150 without it.

Ultra Track Tires Were Rarely Selected

The production data also provides details on individual equipment choices. A total of 687 buyers opted out of adaptive cruise control.

Buyers were relatively close in their selection of standard and “Cup” tires, with 1,389 cars using the standard tires and 1,346 equipped with the Cup option.

Only 147 buyers selected the Ultra Track tires. The tires were street legal but described as not exactly street advised.

North America Received 852 M2 CS Cars

North American buyers received 852 examples of the BMW M2 CS. The available data does not provide a further breakdown, although the source says the U.S. likely received around 500 cars.

A total of 583 cars were sold with right-hand drive, while the remaining vehicles were left-hand-drive models sold in the rest of the world.

According to the data, VIN 000 went to Sweden. The first car was finished in Velvet Blue and equipped with Cup tires, carbon ceramic brakes and adaptive cruise.

The available data returns only three VIN digits, so it does not identify which car was the final M2 CS produced.

How Rare Is the BMW M2 CS?

The 2,882-car production total puts the G87 BMW M2 CS among BMW M’s more limited production models. For comparison, BMW sold 6,309 1 Series M Coupes and produced 5,700 Z8 models.

The Z3 M Coupe was built in similar numbers, while fewer than 500 examples of the original M1 were produced.

Combining the 2020 and 2026 BMW M2 CS models results in a total of about 5,200 cars. That figure is lower than the nearly 5,400 Ford GTs produced across its two generations.
