Nissan is set to reveal the new Skyline this December, bringing an end to the long wait for a new generation of the iconic model. The announcement was confirmed by Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa, who said the company will host a reveal event before the end of the year.

Nissan Confirms the December Skyline Reveal

The confirmation came during an interview between a reporter from Japanese news outlet Asahi Shimbun and Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa. Espinosa said clearly that Nissan would hold an event to reveal the new Skyline in December, although he did not provide an exact date.

The announcement means only a couple more months remain before Nissan finally shows the new car. Espinosa did not provide any additional details about the Skyline beyond the reveal timing.

The December event is also notable because Nissan will introduce the Skyline after the Japan Mobility Show but before the Tokyo Auto Salon.

What to Expect From the New Nissan Skyline

Nissan has already released several teaser renderings since announcing the new Skyline. The design draws heavily from classic Skyline styling, most notably through the use of quad round taillights.

The exterior also features crisp horizontal lines along the sides and the Skyline name spelled out on the rear fenders. Both details evoke the styling of Skylines from the 1960s and 1970s.

New Skyline Could Share Key Hardware With the Nissan Z

The Skyline will continue to serve as the basis for the Infiniti Q50 sedan. Reports about that model therefore provide some indication of what could be expected from the new Skyline.

The car will likely use the Nissan Z’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, along with its automatic and manual transmission options. That would mean the Skyline would almost certainly offer a version producing at least 400 horsepower, matching the Nissan Z.

The new Skyline will also be rear-wheel-drive, while all-wheel-drive versions could also be offered.

Nissan Cut Skyline Development Time to 26 Months

Nissan has also revealed details about how the new Skyline was developed. The company adopted new techniques and procedures designed to dramatically reduce development time.

Espinosa said the new Skyline was developed in 26 months, which is slightly less than half the time required for its predecessor.

The revised development process includes a greater focus on digital development, along with some use of AI in testing before the vehicle moves into more final physical development.

When Will the New Skyline Go on Sale?

With the reveal scheduled for December, the new Skyline will probably go on sale in Japan next year. A reveal of the Infiniti Q50 is also expected sometime next year.

Sales of the Infiniti Q50 would then be expected to begin by the end of the year or in early 2028.
