The Mazda MX-5 Roadster FSW Ver.2 is set to become one of the rarest special versions of Mazda’s long-running roadster, with only six examples planned. Created through a collaboration between four Mazda dealers in Japan, the cars feature Sunflower Yellow paint and specially matched interior details.

Only Six Yellow MX-5 Roadsters

Mazda first unveiled the fourth-generation MX-5 12 years ago, and more than a decade has passed since the model reached showrooms. Despite its age, the roadster has continued to receive improvements and updates while remaining a fun-to-drive car.

Over the years, Mazda has also produced several limited-edition versions, including the RF Launch Edition, 30th and 35th Anniversary Editions, and the 100th Anniversary Edition created to mark Mazda’s centenary.

Japan has also received country-specific special models, including the Roadster 12R, which came from the factory with 200 hp.

Now, Kanto Mazda, Shizuoka Mazda, Tokai Mazda, and Koshin Mazda are collaborating on the semi-official Roadster FSW Ver.2. Only six examples will be produced.

Sunflower Yellow Sets It Apart

The most obvious feature of the Roadster FSW Ver.2 is its yellow exterior. The color is not available through Mazda’s official catalog, making the six cars particularly distinctive.

The cars are finished in Sunflower Yellow, a color known in the U.S. as Competition Yellow. It was last offered on the facelifted version of the previous-generation MX-5, known as the NC.

Built With Mazda Engineering and Technology

The FSW Ver.2 goes beyond a typical dealer special. Although the project involves the four Mazda dealers, each car is painted by Mazda Engineering & Technology, the division that builds Mazda’s concept cars, according to Japanese Nostalgic Car.

That gives the six MX-5s OE-quality treatment rather than simply sending standard cars to a paint booth. The Sunflower Yellow finish is also carried into the cabin.

The upper door trim, air conditioning vents, and key fob are all color-matched to the exterior, giving the special edition a consistent yellow theme.

Special Ownership Package Included

Each of the six Roadster FSW Ver.2 models will also come with a Mazda E&T authentication document, providing additional distinction for the limited-run cars.

The special version costs an additional ¥1,452,000, or about $9,400, on top of the standard MX-5/Roadster. Buyers will be selected through a lottery system.

The price also includes an experiential package for the selected owners. It features a two-day, one-night tour of Hiroshima, along with visits to Mazda headquarters, the Mazda Museum, and the E&T center.

With only six examples planned, the Roadster FSW Ver.2 combines Mazda’s fourth-generation MX-5 with a factory-quality Sunflower Yellow finish, matching interior details and an ownership experience tied directly to Mazda.
