The McLaren SUV is officially happening, marking the British supercar maker’s first move into the SUV market after years of rumors that it would follow Ferrari and Lamborghini into the segment. Details remain limited, but the project is reportedly known internally as P47.
McLaren Confirms Its First SUV
For years, reports have suggested that McLaren could build a four-door vehicle with space for an entire family. The company repeatedly rejected or brushed aside those claims, but it has now confirmed that an SUV is part of its future plans.
McLaren has not yet revealed the vehicle itself. There are no teaser images, design sketches or official specifications, leaving the SUV’s final appearance and technical details undisclosed.

McLaren SUV Rendered With New Design Language
The imagined SUV avoids the traditional chunky crossover appearance and instead aims to retain McLaren’s recognizable design character. Its styling takes major inspiration from the MCL-6GT manual supercar concept, which introduced the brand’s newest design language.
The concept features slimmer lighting, smoother aerodynamic surfaces and a cleaner visual identity than McLaren’s current road cars. The imagined SUV follows the same approach, with a low roofline that makes it look more like a grand tourer on stilts than a conventional SUV.
Massive carbon fiber side sills and deep, sculpted air channels draw inspiration from the Artura and 750S, helping the larger body maintain a lighter visual appearance.
At the rear, the taillights mirror those of the McL 6GT, while the new McLAREN wordmark sits at the center of the tailgate. Up front, the hood carries only the iconic Speedmark emblem, reflecting McLaren’s newer branding direction.
McLaren Plans a £500 Million Investment
McLaren is backing its next chapter with a major investment in its UK operations. The company plans to invest £500 million, or about $669 million, to expand its manufacturing and engineering capabilities, with the SUV expected to be one of the main beneficiaries of that investment.
However, McLaren has not released official information about the SUV’s design, engine, price or release date.
What the P47 Rumors Suggest
According to rumors, the project internally known as P47 could use a powerful hybrid system and arrive in 2028. The same reports suggest it will feature four doors and five seats.
