The 2026 McLaren GTS is McLaren’s least expensive model, starting at $229,900 including destination, and it combines supercar performance with more practicality than many rivals. Despite its position at the bottom of McLaren’s lineup, the GTS remains a serious performance machine.
The Least Expensive McLaren
Supercar prices have climbed significantly, with the Lamborghini Temerario starting at $387,649 compared with the outgoing Huracán’s $212,090 starting MSRP. Adding options to the Temerario can push its price above $500,000.
The 2026 McLaren GTS, which arrived in 2024 as a replacement for the GT, offers a considerably lower entry point. It starts at $229,900, including destination, making it McLaren’s least expensive model.
Even with options, the GTS tested by Autoblog cost $246,100. That makes it a relative “bargain” in the supercar segment. The McLaren Artura, despite using a hybrid V6 powertrain, starts higher at $260,400.
A More Practical Supercar
The GTS is not only the cheapest McLaren model but also the company’s most practical car and one of the most usable supercars of all time.
There is a front trunk with five cubic feet of space, while the rear trunk adds another 15 cubic feet. That combined capacity is enough to hold golf clubs.
The McLaren GTS also offers more combined cargo space than several other performance cars:
- BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe: 15.5 cubic feet
- Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: 12.6 cubic feet, including trunk plus frunk
- Mercedes-AMG GT: 11.3 cubic feet, or 23.8 with the seats folded
- Porsche 718 Cayman: 15.0 cubic feet, including trunk plus frunk
Calling the GTS a comfortable car may be a stretch, but it includes several amenities aimed at making it more livable. An available 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system provides the sound system, although its seven-inch touchscreen could be improved.
Manual seats are standard, while the tested car featured optional power seats with memory that were comfortable during long drives.
Supercar-Level Performance
Although the GTS sits between a GT car and a supercar, its performance places it firmly in the latter category. A mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces 626 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.
The engine represents a 14-horsepower increase over the GT. Power reaches the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
In testing, the GTS reached 60 mph in just 2.85 seconds. That was quicker than McLaren’s 3.1-second estimate and also faster than the more powerful 750S Spider, which recorded 2.98 seconds, and the Artura Spider, which recorded 3.06 seconds.
The results could suggest that McLaren underrates the GTS engine, potentially putting its performance closer to the 740-hp rating of the 750S. More likely, the GTS has an easier time putting its power to the ground than its more powerful siblings.
McLaren GTS Offers Strong Value
Compared with the Artura or 750S, the GTS can look relatively understated, but its performance remains significant. The car features mid-engine proportions and dihedral doors that lift upward.
McLaren’s electro-hydraulic steering provides a communicative feel, while the hydraulic suspension and powerful engine contribute to the GTS’s driving character. It is less visceral than the 750S, but that also makes it more relaxing to drive every day.
The GTS also costs substantially less than the 750S. The latter starts at $365,100 and can exceed $400,000 with a few options, while delivering only a slightly faster experience unless driven on a race track.
There is no true “bargain supercar,” but the 2026 McLaren GTS stands out for combining a $229,900 starting price with supercar performance, substantial cargo space and everyday usability.
