Mazda service plans are expanding in the UK, giving existing owners a way to pay for scheduled maintenance through a fixed monthly fee without having to buy another vehicle from a Mazda dealer.
How Mazda Service Plans Work
Rather than paying for scheduled maintenance each time a service is performed, Mazda owners with a service plan make monthly payments that cover scheduled service for the duration of the plan.
The plans are designed to lock in the cost of scheduled maintenance for the length of the agreement. That means an increase in the price of a service, such as an oil change, would not increase the owner’s monthly payment.
For dealers and automakers, the plans also provide a steady and predictable flow of service revenue. However, the coverage is limited to scheduled maintenance, including services such as oil changes. Unplanned repairs and other issues are not covered in the same way as they would be under a warranty, although the plans allow owners to make additional payments to help cover unexpected repairs.
UK Mazda Owners Can Now Join Without Buying a Car
Previously, Mazda service plans in both the US and UK were available only to customers who purchased a vehicle through a Mazda dealer.
In the US, the program is available with new, certified pre-owned, or conventionally used Mazda vehicles. In the UK, it had been limited to new and certified pre-owned vehicles, making it possible to include prepaid service in the vehicle’s financing.
Mazda’s UK branch has now expanded eligibility beyond vehicle buyers. Anyone who owns a Mazda can sign up for the service plan, provided the vehicle is from model year 2015 or newer.
Could Mazda Expand the Program in the US?
It remains unclear whether Mazda will offer the same expansion to existing owners in the US. A Mazda representative was contacted for comment but had not responded.
Without a response from the automaker, there is no confirmation that Mazda’s US branch is considering a similar change. The success of the expanded program in Europe could provide an indication of how the company views the broader approach, but there is currently no confirmed US expansion.
UK Mazda Service Plan Pricing
In the UK, the monthly cost depends on the vehicle and its age. For new cars, prices start at £23 per month ($30.45) for smaller vehicles such as the Toyota Yaris-based Mazda2.
At the higher end, the monthly fee reaches £38 ($50.31) for the diesel CX-60 and CX-80.
Because existing Mazda owners can have a wide range of vehicles from the past decade, the exact price is not provided until the owner submits the vehicle’s model through its VIN or registration number.
If the expanded service plan eventually comes to the US, existing Mazda owners would similarly need to provide vehicle information before receiving an estimate.
