The updated Lexus RX has arrived in Japan after months of testing and rumors, bringing a series of changes focused largely beneath its familiar exterior. Lexus has concentrated on improving the SUV’s handling, ride comfort and standard equipment rather than giving its best-selling global model a major visual redesign.
Lexus RX Gets Chassis and Handling Updates
The most significant changes to the Lexus RX are underneath the existing body. Lexus further developed the SUV’s handling stability and ride comfort at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama before taking it to Germany’s Nürburgring for additional testing and tuning.
For the RX500h, RX450h+, and RX350h AWD, Lexus has revised the Adaptive Variable Suspension to improve damping. Engineers also made changes to the electric power steering and dynamic rear steering.
Rather than adding more power, Lexus focused on making the RX feel more natural and refined behind the wheel. The suspension is designed to remain composed over rough surfaces while maintaining the RX’s plush ride character.
Subtle Exterior Changes
The refreshed Lexus RX receives only a few visible changes. The version L gains a new White Nova Glass Flake paint option, while red brake calipers are now available on F SPORT and F SPORT Performance models.
Inside, every RX now features IR-cut front door glass. The brake hold function also remembers its previous setting when the vehicle is restarted.
The RX350h and RX350 now receive equipment that was previously available on the RX500h and RX450h+. A digital rearview mirror and a drive recorder covering both ends are now standard across the lineup.
Updated Lexus RX Launches in Japan
The refreshed Lexus RX is already arriving at showrooms in Japan, accompanied by higher prices across the range.
While the update does not bring a major exterior redesign, Lexus has focused on chassis tuning and additional equipment as it updates the RX, the brand’s global sales leader.
When Will the Updated Lexus RX Reach the U.S.?
Japan is the first market to receive the updated Lexus RX, while Lexus has not announced when the refreshed SUV will arrive in other markets.
The refreshed RX is expected to reach the U.S. sometime next year. Meanwhile, the 2027 Lexus RX has just arrived in America with a new price tag.
