Porsche Q3 2026 U.S. sales declined 12.9% year over year, but the automaker said the results were “in line with expectations” as the discontinued gas-powered 718 accounted for much of the drop. The German brand delivered 16,026 vehicles in the United States during the third quarter, while sales of the 718 fell to just eight units as Porsche prepares for an all-electric successor.
Porsche U.S. Sales Decline in Q3 2026
Porsche recorded 16,026 U.S. vehicle sales from July through September 2026, down 12.9% from the same period in 2025. The company attributed much of the decline to the 718, which stopped accepting orders from American buyers last year.
The impact was particularly evident in the model’s quarterly figures. Porsche sold just eight 718 units in Q3 2026, compared with 1,719 vehicles during the third quarter of 2025.
The decline also affected Porsche’s year-to-date performance. Sales from January through September 2026 totaled 49,038 vehicles, a 14.1% decrease from the same period a year earlier. The 718 accounted for only 252 of those sales, representing a 95.3% decline.
Despite the lower figures, Porsche characterized the results as consistent with its expectations, given the circumstances surrounding the 718’s departure from the U.S. market.
Porsche’s Electric 718 Faces a Critical Transition
With the gas-powered Porsche 718 discontinued, attention has shifted to the next-generation sports car. The upcoming model was previously expected to offer both gasoline and electric powertrains, but recent developments indicate that Porsche now intends to make the nameplate fully electric.
The new 718 is expected to use Porsche’s 800-volt E-Core architecture. The system is intended to preserve the balance of the outgoing gasoline-powered models, with battery packaging playing a significant role in that effort.
The transition comes as Porsche faces uneven results across its electric vehicle lineup. The all-electric Taycan was the brand’s second-worst-selling model in its latest U.S. sales report, recording just 537 deliveries in Q3 2026.
Taycan sales fell 65.4% compared with the third quarter of 2025. For the first nine months of 2026, sales reached only 1,616 units, down 55.6% from the same period last year.
Cayenne Overtakes Macan as Porsche’s Best-Selling Model
The Macan also reported declining sales after production of its gasoline-powered version ended in July 2026. The downturn allowed the Cayenne to overtake the Macan as Porsche’s best-selling model in the United States during Q3 2026.
The changes across Porsche’s lineup highlight the adjustments underway as the automaker moves away from certain gasoline-powered models while expanding its electric vehicle offerings.
The upcoming electric 718 will be an important test of that transition, particularly in the U.S. market, where Porsche vehicles continue to face import tariffs.
Porsche 911 Sales Remain Strong Year to Date
While Porsche is preparing an electric future for the 718, the company has assured customers that the 911 will not become fully electric. The sports car is, however, available with a degree of electrification through its T-Hybrid powertrain.
The 911 recorded 3,300 U.S. sales in Q3 2026, a 4.3% decline compared with the same quarter last year. Its year-to-date performance remained stronger, with 11,778 vehicles sold through September, up 32.8% from the corresponding period in 2025.
The figures contrast with the sharper declines recorded by the Taycan and 718, underscoring the different sales trends across Porsche’s sports cars and electric models.
Electric Porsche 718 Expected to Arrive in 2027
Porsche is expected to launch the all-electric 718 in 2027, with 2028 set to mark its first full year of production. Its performance in the U.S. market will be closely tied to how buyers respond to the fully electric version of a nameplate previously associated with gasoline-powered sports cars.
The future model could also face competition from upcoming electric sports cars, including the Tesla Roadster and the Alpine A110 EV. The Alpine model was undergoing U.S. crash testing earlier in 2026.
For now, Porsche’s Q3 2026 U.S. sales results reflect the impact of the 718’s phaseout, alongside declining demand for the Taycan and Macan. The planned electric 718 launch in 2027 will mark the next stage for the sports car as Porsche continues to reshape its lineup.
