The Toyota Land Cruiser is celebrating 75 years since its original debut, and Toyota is marking the milestone with a limited-edition model featuring retro styling and upgraded off-road equipment. Based on the Land Cruiser 250, the 75th Anniversary Edition is limited to just 75 units for German buyers, combining classic round headlights with features designed to improve capability on challenging terrain.
Toyota Land Cruiser Marks 75 Years With Limited Edition
Although the Toyota Land Cruiser nameplate was introduced in 1954, the vehicle itself debuted in 1951 as the Toyota Jeep BJ. Toyota later changed the name to Land Cruiser because Willys-Overland held the trademark rights to the Jeep name.
For the anniversary, Toyota has created a special edition that brings together the Land Cruiser’s heritage-inspired appearance and additional off-road equipment. Its round headlights recall the design of the Land Cruiser 1958 sold in the United States.
The German-market 75th Anniversary Edition also includes equipment typically associated with the higher-end Land Cruiser trim, which uses rectangular headlights. The combination gives buyers the retro look alongside additional off-road features.
Off-Road Equipment Adds Capability
Unlike the U.S.-spec Land Cruiser 1958, the 75th Anniversary Edition comes with a Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM) and a Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM).
The electronically controlled SDM disconnects the front sway bar to increase wheel articulation, a feature suited to uneven terrain. The MTM provides real-time views of the vehicle’s front, sides, rear and the area underneath it, helping drivers maneuver around rocks, mud and tight obstacles.
These features add practical off-road equipment to the anniversary model while preserving its retro exterior styling.
Exclusive Paint Colors and Collectible Extras
The 75th Anniversary Edition is available in Smoky Blue, a new and exclusive paint color. Buyers can also choose from Super White, Sand, Avantgarde Bronze, Aura Black, Dark Grey and Platinum White.
Each vehicle features 75th Anniversary badges and comes with a collection of commemorative items. These include a 1:60-scale Tomica Land Cruiser, a handmade keychain, an enamel sign and a Land Cruiser history book.
German and U.S. Land Cruiser Powertrains Differ
The German-market 75th Anniversary Edition uses a different powertrain from the Land Cruiser sold in the United States.
The German model pairs a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, producing 202 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The U.S.-spec Land Cruiser instead uses a 2.4-liter i-Force Max hybrid powertrain rated at 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.
Despite their different powertrains and output figures, both versions use an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive.
Toyota Land Cruiser 75th Anniversary Edition Price
The 75th Anniversary Edition starts at 84,750 euros, equivalent to about $95,100 at current exchange rates. Toyota is also offering a separate, more luxury-oriented Lounge trim priced at 91,990 euros, or approximately $103,300.
The limited production run is specifically intended for German buyers, and Toyota has not confirmed whether an equivalent 75th Anniversary Edition will be offered in the United States.
U.S. Land Cruiser Gets 2027 Model-Year Updates
For now, the U.S.-market Land Cruiser has received updates for the 2027 model year as it continues competing against vehicles such as the Jeep Wrangler.
The Land Cruiser 1958 starts at $58,180 before destination charges, while the higher-end model starts at $64,255.
Toyota sold 26,697 Land Cruisers in the United States during the first nine months of this year, a 24% decline compared with the same period in 2025.
Toyota’s 75th Anniversary Edition combines classic Land Cruiser styling, additional off-road technology and commemorative accessories in a 75-unit German-market release, while the automaker’s plans for a corresponding U.S. edition remain unclear.
