Porsche has expanded a safety recall affecting 548 high-performance sports cars, including several 718 and 911 models from the 2024 model year. The recall includes a Do Not Drive warning because a defective centerlock wheel component could fracture, potentially causing a wheel to detach while the vehicle is in motion.

Porsche Recall Expands to 548 Sports Cars

The latest Porsche recall follows an earlier campaign in October 2024 involving a similar problem. The automaker has since identified another group of vehicles at risk of experiencing a failure involving their centerlock wheel fastening systems.

Certain centerlock wheel components may have been manufactured outside specifications and could fracture. In the worst-case scenario, the failure could cause a wheel to separate from the vehicle, creating a serious safety risk.

The recall affects the following 2024 Porsche models:

  • 2024 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS: 73 units
  • 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S: 94 units
  • 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo: 13 units
  • 2024 Porsche 911 S/T: 39 units
  • 2024 Porsche 911 GT3 RS: 41 units
  • 2024 Porsche 911 GT3: 50 units
  • 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS: 168 units
  • 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS: 70 units

In total, 548 vehicles are included in the recall. All are high-performance variants equipped with centerlock wheels.

Owners Told Not to Drive Affected Porsche Models

Owners of affected vehicles are instructed not to drive their cars until the wheels have been inspected by a Porsche dealer. The warning addresses the risk of a wheel detaching because of a potentially defective component.

Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and replace any parts found to be outside specifications, if necessary. Because the vehicles remain under warranty, replacement parts will be covered.

Porsche plans to notify affected owners by phone, email and through the MyPorsche App over the next one to two weeks. Dealers were notified on October 20, 2026, and vehicle identification numbers became searchable online that same day.

When Will Porsche Owners Receive a Remedy?

The recall report was submitted on October 16, 2026. Customer notification letters are expected to be mailed within the first 60 days after the report was filed, but owners are not expected to receive notification of a remedy until December 15, 2026.

With the Do Not Drive warning in effect, some owners could be unable to safely use their vehicles for almost two months while waiting for a remedy.

Are Centerlock Wheels Worth the Cost?

Centerlock wheels are typically reserved for high-performance vehicles and can be offered as expensive options. Every Porsche included in this recall has a base price well above $100,000, highlighting the premium nature of the affected models.

The wheels are valued for their race-inspired appearance and their ability to be removed quickly in a track environment when the appropriate equipment is available. However, they can be less practical for drivers who primarily use their cars on public roads.

Centerlock wheels have demanding torque requirements and need specialized tools for removal and installation. They also require more intensive maintenance and cleaning, while owners who never take their vehicles to a track may not benefit from their performance advantages.

Despite these drawbacks, some enthusiasts and collectors consider centerlock wheels worth the cost for their appearance alone.

For owners of the affected Porsche 718 and 911 models, the immediate priority is to have their vehicles inspected and any necessary replacement parts installed before driving again.
