The Ferrari Luce, the automaker’s controversial all-electric sedan, will start at $560,800 in the United States, making it less expensive than initially expected based on European pricing. The five-seat electric Ferrari delivers 1,035 horsepower through four electric motors and was designed in collaboration with industrial designer Marc Newson and former Apple designer Jony Ive.
Although the Luce has attracted criticism over styling that some believe strays from Ferrari’s traditional design identity, the company says demand has been exceptional. Its U.S. starting price places it among the most expensive sedans on the market, although the final cost varies depending on taxes.
Ferrari Luce Costs $560,800 in the U.S.
Based on the announced European price of 550,000 euros, the Ferrari Luce was initially expected to cost around $640,000 in the United States after currency conversion. Ferrari has confirmed a U.S. starting price of $560,800, approximately $55,000 to $60,000 below that expectation.
Despite the lower-than-expected price, the Luce remains an exceptionally expensive sedan. Its starting price is also nearly $100,000 higher than that of Ferrari’s other family-oriented model, the V12-powered Purosangue, which costs approximately $438,610.
The difference between the U.S. and European prices reflects the way taxes are calculated in each market.
Why the Ferrari Luce Is Cheaper in the U.S.
The United States imposes heavy tariffs, in addition to the costs associated with importing vehicles. Those expenses might suggest that the Ferrari Luce would cost more in the American market than in Europe.
However, European vehicle prices generally include taxes, while U.S. prices typically exclude sales tax. Italy’s tax rate is 22%, making the distinction important when comparing the Luce’s advertised prices across the two markets.
If the European price includes Italian taxes, the Luce would cost approximately €450,800 before tax. That figure translates to about $506,000, meaning the U.S. starting price is $54,800 higher before American sales taxes are added.
California Taxes Could Push the Ferrari Luce Above $616,000
Sales taxes in the United States vary by state and local jurisdiction, so the final price of the Ferrari Luce will depend on where it is purchased. In California, the tax rate on a new vehicle is 7.5%, although local government entities may impose additional taxes of up to 2.5%.
For a buyer in California, taxes could add approximately $56,000 to the Luce’s $560,800 starting price. That would bring the total to around $616,800 with tax included.
Even after accounting for California taxes, the resulting price would remain below the approximately $640,000 European price, which includes tax.
Ferrari Luce Combines Electric Power With a Luxury Sedan Design
The Ferrari Luce combines a five-seat sedan layout with four electric motors producing 1,035 horsepower. Its design collaboration with Marc Newson and Jony Ive has attracted attention, while its styling has also generated criticism from people who believe it does not resemble a traditional Ferrari.
With a confirmed U.S. starting price of $560,800, the Luce is less expensive than initially expected based on European pricing. However, taxes can significantly affect the final purchase price, particularly in states such as California, where additional local charges may apply.
