Fiat introduced the Topolino earlier in 2026, attracting attention with its design and affordability. At roughly half the price of a Chevrolet Bolt, it offered an inexpensive entry into electric mobility. However, the original version was not street-legal, limiting where owners could drive it. The 2027 model addresses that restriction, although its low maximum speed continues to limit its use.
2027 Fiat Topolino Gets a Street-Legal Conversion Kit
The new low-speed vehicle (LSV) conversion kit fulfills Fiat’s earlier promise to expand the Topolino’s usability. Existing owners can convert their vehicles into street-legal versions at no charge, while all new shipments of the 2027 Topolino will come with the kit installed.
The conversion does not make the Topolino suitable for every road. Its maximum speed with the LSV kit is just 25 mph, allowing it to be used beyond private roads and corporate campuses but not on highways.
The update expands the vehicle’s potential uses while maintaining its focus on short-distance transportation. The free conversion also gives current owners an opportunity to benefit from the changes without paying for the kit.
Topolino Open Air Introduces a Rollback Roof and New Colors
The 2027 lineup introduces the Fiat Topolino Open Air, featuring a soft-top rollback roof that creates a more open feel inside the compact cabin.
Fiat has also added two exterior colors: Corallo Orange and Luna Greige. A new full-color digital gauge cluster completes the updates, giving the small electric vehicle a refreshed instrument display.
The changes expand the Topolino lineup while preserving its compact design and affordable positioning.
Fiat Reveals a Yacht-Inspired Topolino in Florida
Alongside the 2027 model announcement, Fiat unveiled a special Topolino developed in collaboration with Sanlorenzo, an Italian yacht maker. The reveal took place at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show.
The special model features an interior inspired by the yacht maker’s use of natural materials and high-end textiles. These materials are incorporated into the dashboard, seats, and sunroof.
Other distinctive details include nautical-grade wood flooring inspired by premium yachts, custom seat belts, and natural leather accents. The design brings yacht-inspired materials and finishes into the compact electric vehicle.
Fiat Continues to Face Sales Challenges in the U.S.
Fiat remains the slowest-selling Stellantis brand in the United States. During the first three quarters of 2026, the automaker sold just 291 vehicles in the market.
The total included 211 units of the 500e and just 73 units of the discontinued 500X crossover. Topolino sales are not included in the brand’s regular passenger vehicle sales reports.
Fiat has other vehicles that could potentially strengthen its position in the American market, but they are not currently offered in the United States.
The Pulse crossover, already sold in Latin America, is one potential option. The Fiat Grande Panda hatchback could also attract buyers looking for a modern, small vehicle, including those considering models such as the Nissan Kicks or Kia Rio. However, the Grande Panda would need more power to meet American expectations.
Affordable Small Vehicles Could Offer Fiat a Path Forward
The reported demand for the Topolino suggests that small, efficient, and affordable vehicles could offer Fiat an opportunity to strengthen its position in North America.
The $13,995 starting price, distinctive styling, and new updates give the micro EV a broader appeal. The addition of the LSV conversion kit, the Open Air variant, new colors, and a digital gauge cluster marks another step in the vehicle’s development.
Although exact Topolino sales figures have not been disclosed, Fiat says many dealerships have quickly sold through their initial allocations. The latest updates could help the automaker build on that reported interest as it seeks a more prominent position in the American market.
