BMW has produced its 13 millionth vehicle at its Dingolfing plant in Germany, marking a major milestone for the automaker’s largest vehicle manufacturing facility. The anniversary vehicle is an M4 Convertible finished in Borusan Turkish Blue and ordered by a customer in the United States.

The milestone reflects more than five decades of BMW production at Dingolfing, a facility that has become a central part of the company’s global manufacturing network.

BMW Dingolfing Plant Has a History Dating to 1905

The site’s automotive history began long before BMW established operations there. The location dates to 1905, when it housed the Glas factories.

BMW officially began producing vehicles at Dingolfing on September 27, 1973. The first car to leave the assembly line was a first-generation 5 Series (E12) finished in Iberian Red.

Since then, Dingolfing has grown into BMW Group’s largest vehicle manufacturing plant. No other vehicle plant within the group has produced as many cars, underscoring the facility’s importance to the automaker’s production operations.

BMW Currently Builds Five Models in Dingolfing

The plant currently manufactures the 4 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series, along with the all-electric iX. Production of the new G50-generation 3 Series is scheduled to begin in November, adding another model to the factory’s lineup.

If BMW approves the 3 Series Touring (G51), Dingolfing would also be a logical location for its production.

The plant’s lineup has already changed following the end of production for the 8 Series Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe.

BMW Plans More Model Updates for Dingolfing

The 7 Series recently received what BMW described as its biggest facelift ever, while a separate ALPINA version is expected to follow next year.

Facelifted versions of the 5 Series and i5 are expected in 2027, bringing updated G60 and G61 models to Dingolfing’s assembly lines. The M5 G90 sedan and G99 wagon are also expected to receive the same updates.

The future of the iX at the plant is less certain. The iX5 has joined BMW’s lineup, and the iX7 is scheduled to follow in 2027. BMW is already ending iX sales in the United States but plans to continue offering the model in other markets.

Production of the iX could end in mid-2028, although BMW has not officially confirmed that timeline.

BMW’s Largest European Factory Employs 18,000 People

Dingolfing employs approximately 18,000 people, making it the largest employer in the region. The plant produces around 1,350 vehicles per day.

Last year, the facility assembled 279,553 vehicles, ranking fourth among BMW’s factories worldwide by production volume.

With 13 million vehicles now built at the site, Dingolfing remains a major part of BMW’s manufacturing operations as its model lineup continues to evolve.
