The BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme is preparing for another top-speed attempt after becoming the world’s fastest production car in September 2025. The electric hypercar is expected to return for a new run this month, targeting speeds above 310.7 mph (500 kph) in Dubai.
After setting a production-car speed record, BYD is preparing to push the U9 Xtreme even further. The planned attempt will require a 15-kilometer (9.3-mile) stretch of road, with arrangements currently being discussed with local authorities.
BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme Targets 310.7 MPH
BYD vice president Stella Li said the Yangwang U9 Xtreme will make another top-speed attempt sometime this month, with the goal of breaking the 500-kph barrier.
The test is planned for Dubai, although the company has not announced a specific date. The attempt was initially scheduled to take place in Germany, where the hypercar completed its previous record-setting run, but the location has since been changed for undisclosed reasons.
On September 14, 2025, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme officially became the world’s fastest production car, reaching a top speed of 308.4 mph.
What Makes the Yangwang U9 Xtreme So Powerful?
The electric hypercar is built on the world’s first 1,200-volt EV architecture and features four electric motors producing a combined 2,977 horsepower.
BYD has not published an official zero-to-60 mph acceleration time. Estimates place the figure at slightly more than two seconds, which would make the U9 slower than some rivals, including the Rimac Nevera R, which has recorded a 1.66-second run.
However, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme delivers strong performance beyond straight-line acceleration. The hypercar has recorded a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 6:59.157.
Engineering Designed for Extreme Speeds
Despite weighing nearly 5,500 pounds, the U9 Xtreme compensates with its substantial power output and a chassis engineered to handle extreme speeds.
Its combination of four electric motors, high-voltage architecture and performance-focused engineering has helped establish the hypercar as a serious contender in production-car speed records.
With its 308.4-mph record already secured, BYD is preparing to take the Yangwang U9 Xtreme back out for another run, aiming to push its top speed beyond 310 mph.
