Nissan is bringing a radically modified Frontier to SEMA, combining a twin-turbocharged V6 from the GT-R with a lifted suspension, 35-inch tires and a reinforced rear axle from the full-size Titan. The Nissan Frontier Ronin concept is designed to deliver high-performance power alongside serious off-road capability.

With its unusual rear-mounted turbochargers, long-travel suspension and aggressive styling, the Ronin showcases Nissan’s vision of a high-performance, unstoppable off-road truck.

Nissan Frontier Ronin Gets GT-R Twin-Turbo Power

Nissan describes the Ronin as a “high-performance, unstoppable off-road truck.” Its name refers to a “masterless warrior” in Japanese culture, a samurai whose leader has been killed. The name reflects the truck’s intended purpose and the personality Nissan wants it to convey.

Under the hood, the concept starts with a heavily modified 3.8-liter V6. The engine receives twin turbochargers from the Nissan GT-R, but instead of mounting them in the engine bay, they are positioned farther back in the exhaust system.

Rear-mounted turbocharger setups are uncommon, but they can provide a solution when space inside the engine compartment is limited.

The engine also receives new engine management, a front intercooler and an off-road air intake system to support the twin-turbo setup.

Nissan has not disclosed the concept’s horsepower output. The standard V6 produces 310 hp, but the modified engine is expected to deliver substantially more power.

Four-Inch Lift and Long-Travel Suspension

The Frontier Ronin features Bilstein Black Hawk suspension, including 70mm four-way adjustable coilovers with bypass damping adjustment.

The setup raises the truck four inches above the standard Frontier. CJD Racing long-travel suspension adds 14 inches of suspension travel and increases the truck’s width by 12 inches.

To handle the additional power and wider stance, the concept uses a modified rear axle from the full-size Titan.

Nismo prototype wheels are paired with 35-inch Yokohama Geolandar X-AT tires, providing off-road traction and an imposing stance.

Distinctive Ronin Concept Styling

The concept wears teal paint complemented by a topographic-inspired sticker package.

It also features a redesigned front fascia, off-road bumpers and a collection of Nismo components, including rock sliders, a spare tire carrier and additional lighting.

The exterior modifications give the Ronin an aggressive appearance while emphasizing its off-road-focused design.

Nissan Frontier Ronin Interior Upgrades

Inside, the concept features Kinetic bucket seats and topographic-inspired seat belts.

A three-gauge pod has been added to the dashboard, while Nismo all-weather floor mats complete the interior modifications.

With its GT-R twin-turbo V6, Titan-derived rear axle, lifted suspension and extensive off-road upgrades, the Nissan Frontier Ronin concept brings together performance-focused engineering and rugged truck hardware for SEMA.
