Fat Fender Garage has introduced an extreme 1956 Ford F-100 restomod at the 2026 SEMA Show, combining classic pickup styling with modern sports car design and 800 horsepower. Called the GT/FX, the custom-built truck showcases the company’s capabilities through extensive body modifications, a performance-focused chassis, and a supercharged V8 engine.
A 1956 Ford F-100 Reimagined as a Modern Sports Car
Fat Fender Garage specializes in parts and complete builds for classic Ford and Chevrolet pickup trucks, covering models from the 1940s through the 1970s. Its projects range from understated restorations to extreme custom creations, including both lowered and lifted trucks.
This year’s SEMA project focuses on the company’s namesake: the distinctive fat-fender Ford pickups of the 1950s. Fat Fender Garage developed the GT/FX to demonstrate the full capabilities of its team.
The company’s goal was to create an F-100 with “the presence and performance of the modern-era Ford GT.” Despite that inspiration, the truck does not feature a mid-engine layout or a Ford GT powertrain. Instead, it combines the classic 1956 F-100 design with contemporary sports car styling and substantial performance upgrades.
Custom Chassis and Extensive Exterior Modifications
One of the GT/FX’s most significant features is its custom body and chassis. The truck uses Fat Fender Garage’s FF1 custom chassis, which accommodates adjustable coilover suspension.
Its body is constructed entirely from steel and features extensive modifications, including a shortened cab and widened fenders. The front and rear bumpers have also been redesigned with a more modern appearance.
A front splitter adds to the updated styling, while the rear incorporates a diffuser sourced from a Ford Mustang GT350. The stainless steel trim has received a dark graphite coating, creating a distinctive contrast with the truck’s warm pewter paint finish.
Supercharged Coyote V8 Produces 800 Horsepower
Power comes from Ford’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine rather than an engine associated with any Ford GT model. Fat Fender Garage added a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, increasing output to 800 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque.
The engine is paired with a Ford 10-speed automatic transmission. The setup also includes a custom exhaust system equipped with electric cutouts.
Beyond its straight-line performance, the GT/FX’s custom chassis and adjustable coilover suspension are intended to give the truck sharp handling characteristics.
Modernized Interior Blends Classic and Contemporary Design
The exterior is not the only area to receive extensive customization. Fat Fender Garage also developed a fully custom interior that combines traditional design elements with modern technology.
The dashboard retains classic lines, while much of the cabin has been significantly modernized. A sizable touchscreen infotainment system sits within the center stack and flows into a center console featuring a floor-mounted transmission shifter.
The cabin also features a pair of modern-style bucket seats, with leather covering nearly every interior surface.
With its 800-horsepower supercharged V8, extensively modified steel body, custom chassis, and redesigned cabin, the Fat Fender Garage GT/FX transforms the 1956 Ford F-100 into a high-performance restomod that brings classic pickup styling together with modern sports car influences.
