The Lexus TX1 is bringing a new level of luxury to the midsize pickup segment, but this unusual truck isn’t coming from the automaker itself. Aftermarket builder Meso Customs unveiled a fully functional luxury pickup concept at the 2026 SEMA Show, transforming a Toyota Tacoma into a vehicle inspired by the Lexus GX 550.

Automakers have historically been reluctant to introduce pickup trucks under luxury nameplates. Although Lexus has repeatedly ruled out premium versions of the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra, Meso Customs decided to explore the idea independently.

Inspired by a digital rendering created by artist Lukemadevids, the Lexus TX1 combines the Tacoma’s underlying platform with extensive Lexus-inspired styling and custom engineering.

How Meso Customs Created the Lexus TX1

Building the Lexus TX1 required significant modifications to the original Toyota Tacoma. Meso Customs selected the midsize pickup rather than the larger Tundra because its proportions were better suited to the Lexus GX 550 design.

The fabrication team modified both the front and rear sections of the Tacoma to accommodate the GX 550 grille, headlights and hood. Custom 3D-printed body panels were also used to integrate ultra-wide fenders, creating a more distinctive premium appearance.

The result is a heavily reworked pickup that combines Toyota Tacoma underpinnings with the visual identity of the Lexus GX 550.

A Functional Tailgate With Heated Seats and Bluetooth Speakers

One of the most distinctive features of the Lexus TX1 is its redesigned rear section. Meso Customs used an actual Lexus GX rear hatch to create a functional tailgate, securing the assembly with heavy-duty Rivian latches.

When opened, the custom tailgate transforms into a rear bench equipped with integrated heated seats and Bluetooth speakers, adding a luxury-focused feature to the pickup’s tailgating experience.

This unusual design represents one of the project’s most significant engineering achievements.

Lexus TX1 Combines Luxury Styling With Off-Road Hardware

Despite its premium appearance, the Lexus TX1 retains serious off-road equipment. The modified chassis features King Off-Road Racing shocks and 74 Weld upper control arms, a suspension configuration designed to improve performance over rough terrain.

The truck also rides on beadlock wheels fitted with oversized Toyo Open Country R/T Trail tires, giving it an aggressive stance.

Under the hood, a front-mounted intercooler and a new intake system help the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine breathe more easily.

Interior Details Remain Undisclosed

Although the exterior of the Lexus TX1 is complete, Meso Customs has not yet revealed the concept’s interior. The cabin would require substantial modifications to move beyond the original Toyota specifications and match the vehicle’s premium positioning.

One potential direction would involve incorporating the modern multimedia experience available across the official Lexus lineup, although no specific interior upgrades have been confirmed.

Lexus TX1 Will Remain a One-Off SEMA Concept

Despite the extensive fabrication work, Meso Customs has confirmed that the Lexus TX1 is a one-off concept created specifically for the 2026 SEMA Show. The company currently has no plans to turn the conversion into a mass-market package for customers.

While the pickup is not headed for regular production, the project demonstrates how a Toyota Tacoma can be transformed into a midsize luxury pickup with Lexus-inspired styling, specialized off-road hardware and unconventional functional features.

For now, the Lexus TX1 remains a unique custom build rather than a production vehicle.
