The 2027 BMW X5 lineup is getting more expensive as buyers explore the latest configuration options, with a fully equipped plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive reaching $101,350. Meanwhile, a heavily optioned rear-wheel-drive X5 40 comes in at $93,900, offering a lower-cost alternative while retaining BMW’s B58 inline-six engine.

BMW recently added the rear-wheel-drive X5 40 and the hybrid, all-wheel-drive X5 50e xDrive to its U.S. configurator. The new options provide buyers with different powertrain and pricing choices, but adding premium packages, upgraded interiors and optional equipment can quickly push the SUV toward or beyond six figures.

2027 BMW X5 40 Configuration Reaches $93,900

The rear-wheel-drive BMW X5 40 starts at $71,250, including destination charges. That makes it $2,300 less expensive than the corresponding xDrive model while retaining the same B58 inline-six engine.

BMW claims the rear-wheel-drive version accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, just one-tenth of a second slower than its all-wheel-drive counterpart.

However, the lower starting price leaves plenty of room for expensive upgrades. Adding the M Sport Professional package costs $4,550, while Frozen Space Silver Metallic paint adds $3,600. Standard metallic paint costs $650, and upgrading to 23-inch wheels adds another $1,000.

Luxury Interior and Optional Packages Drive Up the Price

Interior upgrades account for another significant portion of the build. While Veganza upholstery comes at no additional cost and leather starts at $2,600, the configuration uses the Vintage Coffee BMW Individual Interior Design with Merino Leather, adding $3,100.

The build initially includes the $1,800 Luxury Front Seating Package, which provides ventilated and massaging seats with more adjustment options than the standard seats. However, that package is replaced by the more expensive $2,800 Climate Comfort Package.

The Climate Comfort Package includes the same front-seat features while adding heated rear seats, heated armrests and four-zone climate control.

Additional equipment includes the $3,100 Luxury Package, which adds Automatic Doors and the Passenger Screen. The configuration also includes Driving Assistance Professional for $1,750 and Parking Assistance for $750.

After adding the remaining optional equipment, including Bowers & Wilkins audio, a trailer hitch and window shades, the final price reaches $93,900, including the selected upgrades. That remains below the $95,400 price of the xDrive configuration.

BMW X5 50e xDrive Crosses the $100,000 Mark

The plug-in hybrid BMW X5 50e xDrive received a similarly extensive configuration, although Frozen Tanzanite Blue replaced the Frozen Space Silver Metallic finish selected for the X5 40.

The hybrid starts at $78,980, including destination charges, making it around $5,000 more expensive than the xDrive model. With the same collection of options added to the rear-wheel-drive build, its final price climbs to $101,350.

That makes the X5 50e xDrive the first model in the lineup to cross the six-figure threshold in this fully equipped configuration, even before warranty costs are included.

483 Horsepower and 44 Miles of Electric Range

Despite its higher price, the X5 50e xDrive offers several performance advantages. BMW claims it can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, considerably quicker than the other X5 versions.

The improvement comes from a combined 483 horsepower produced by the B58 inline-six engine and electric motor. That represents nearly 100 additional horsepower compared with the other X5 iterations.

BMW also claims the plug-in hybrid can travel up to 44 miles using electric power alone. The availability of Level 2 charging stations adds another practical feature to its electric driving capability.

2027 BMW X5 Offers Different Price and Performance Options

The latest configurations highlight the differences between the 2027 BMW X5 models. The rear-wheel-drive X5 40 provides a lower starting price and reaches $93,900 with extensive optional equipment, while the plug-in hybrid X5 50e xDrive delivers 483 combined horsepower and up to 44 miles of electric-only range at a fully configured price of $101,350.

With multiple powertrain choices, performance figures and luxury packages available, the 2027 BMW X5 offers buyers several ways to configure the SUV according to their preferences and budgets.
