BMW is offering up to $500 in public charging credits to U.S. customers who buy or lease a qualifying 2027 BMW i5, i7 or iX3, along with a complimentary one-year membership at IONNA that provides a 25% discount on charging. Launched November 5, the 2027 BMW charging package gives owners access to two separate charging credits, but both the credits and membership expire within one year of the vehicle’s retail date.
What’s Included in BMW’s 2027 EV Charging Package?
The new incentive combines charging credits that can be used across participating networks with additional savings at IONNA, the charging network partially owned by BMW and other automakers.
The package includes three benefits:
- $300 BMW ChargingNetwork credit: Available for use at participating charging providers.
- $200 IONNA charging credit: Restricted to charging sessions at IONNA locations.
- One-year BMW Membership at IONNA: Provides a 25% discount on charging.
Once the available credits are exhausted, charging sessions are billed to the payment method associated with the owner’s account.
BMW is also extending the benefits to customers who purchased or leased an eligible 2027 model before the November 5 launch. However, the offer does not include the BMW i4 or iX.
One important detail is the expiration period. Both charging credits and the complimentary membership remain valid for up to one year from the vehicle’s retail date. That means the expiration countdown begins when the customer takes delivery, rather than when they complete enrollment in the program.
How Much Charging Can BMW’s $500 Credit Provide?
The actual value of BMW’s charging package depends largely on where owners recharge their vehicles and whether the IONNA membership discount can be combined with the charging credits.
IONNA said in late August that its charging prices would never exceed 39 cents per kilowatt-hour, plus applicable taxes. Using that maximum rate, the $200 IONNA credit would cover approximately 513 kWh of electricity.
If the 25% membership discount also applies to charging sessions paid for with the credit, that amount could increase to approximately 684 kWh. However, BMW’s announcement does not clarify whether the membership discount can be combined with the promotional credit.
Customers who use the entire $500 package at IONNA and receive the discounted charging rate could get approximately 1,700 kWh of electricity. That represents the best-case scenario for the offer.
The $300 BMW ChargingNetwork credit may provide less energy when used at more expensive charging networks, including Electrify America and EVgo.
IONNA Locations Could Determine the Package’s Value
BMW is one of IONNA’s eight founding automakers, helping explain why the new incentive directs a significant portion of its benefits toward the network.
Of the $500 in available credits, $200 can only be used at IONNA locations, while the entire 25% membership discount is tied to the same network.
Drivers living near one of IONNA’s more than 200 U.S. Rechargeries are positioned to get the greatest value from the package. Owners without convenient access to those locations will rely more heavily on the $300 credit available through participating charging providers.
How the 2027 BMW Offer Compares With Previous Charging Deals
BMW’s public charging incentives have gradually become more limited over the past several model years.
When the BMW iX and i4 launched in 2022, customers received two years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America. BMW extended the arrangement to the i5 in 2023.
For the 2026 model year, Electrify America’s terms provided i7 owners with 2,000 kWh of charging over 36 months. The i4, i5 and iX received 1,000 kWh over two years.
BMW’s latest announcement does not clarify whether those Electrify America allowances will continue for 2027 models.
If the new $500 package replaces the previous benefits, the change could be particularly significant for buyers who primarily use IONNA. i5 owners could receive roughly the same amount of energy but would have only half as much time to use it.
The impact is greater for i7 buyers. Their previous allowance of 2,000 kWh over three years would be replaced by a $500 charging package that expires after 12 months.
IONNA’s New Discount Is More Limited Than BMW’s Previous Offer
The new 25% IONNA membership discount is larger than BMW’s previous charging promotion, but it comes with tighter eligibility requirements.
Earlier in 2026, BMW and MINI electric vehicle drivers received a 20% discount on IONNA charging through the end of September. That promotion did not require enrollment.
The new program increases the discount to 25%, but limits eligibility to three BMW models and provides the benefit for one year.
How to Claim the BMW Charging Credits in the My BMW App
Eligible owners must enroll through the My BMW app to activate the charging package and access its benefits.
The enrollment process is available through the following menu:
- Open the My BMW app.
- Select Charging.
- Go to Services.
- Select Charging Wallet.
- Choose BMW ChargingNetwork.
- Set up an account and accept the package.
After enrollment, the charging credits and membership will appear in the Digital Charging Wallet. The benefits are then applied automatically when owners use eligible charging services.
Because the one-year validity period begins on the vehicle’s retail date, BMW owners who have already taken delivery of a qualifying 2027 model should complete enrollment promptly to access the available benefits.
Will Other 2027 BMW Electric Vehicles Qualify?
BMW has not confirmed whether the same charging package will be extended to additional upcoming electric vehicles.
The company has not said whether the iX5 and Neue Klasse i3, both due in the first quarter of 2027, will receive the same $500 charging incentive and complimentary IONNA membership.
BMW also has not disclosed the cost of an IONNA membership after the complimentary one-year period ends.
For now, the $500 charging package is limited to the 2027 BMW i5, i7 and iX3, with the total value owners receive depending on their charging habits, access to IONNA locations and ability to use the credits before they expire.
