2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 Debuts With More Power and Luxury

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 has been unveiled with a more powerful electrified V8, updated styling, new chassis technology, and a long list of luxury enhancements. Rather than introducing a complete redesign, Mercedes-Maybach has comprehensively refreshed its flagship SUV with upgrades spanning performance, comfort, technology, and design.

Luxury SUV Receives a Comprehensive Refresh

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 returns with updates throughout the vehicle, including revised exterior styling, enhanced interior features, and improved driving technology.

Among the standout additions are optional 23-inch forged wheels featuring Mercedes star center caps that remain upright while the wheels rotate using a precision ball-bearing mechanism. Buyers who prefer a different look can choose a new standard 22-inch wheel with a 20-hole design.

Standard electric running boards deploy in less than one second when a door is opened. Finished in anodized aluminum with non-slip rubber and a chrome Maybach emblem, the steps also feature LED illumination and project a Maybach pattern onto the ground before retracting into the side sills after the doors close.

Exterior Design Gains New Lighting and Finishes

The refreshed front end features a redesigned grille with an illuminated surround. For the first time, the MAYBACH name is illuminated within the grille, while the standing hood ornament is now available with optional lighting.

Additional design changes include Rose Gold accents inside the headlamps, a black panel connecting the headlights to the grille, and a redesigned front bumper with a chrome underguard.

At the rear, a redesigned tailgate visually connects the taillights, which now feature three-dimensional chrome-framed Mercedes star motifs.

Mercedes-Maybach also introduces new exterior paint colors, including Dark Petrol and Patagonia Red Metallic, along with an exclusive two-tone Dark Petrol and Verde Silver finish. Buyers can also choose the Night Series package, which adds dark-chrome trim, black exterior accents, and exclusive seven-spoke wheels.

Electrified V8 Delivers More Performance

The updated GLS 680 is powered by an electrified twin-turbocharged V8 producing 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, representing increases of 53 horsepower and 89 lb-ft over the previous version.

The engine also features two additional balance shafts for smoother operation, while a 48-volt mild-hybrid system contributes an extra 23 horsepower and supports coasting, energy recuperation, and automatic stop-start functionality.

Updated Chassis and Suspension Technology

Mercedes-Maybach has revised the steering ratio to improve precision and agility. The standard air suspension now uses cloud-based predictive damping that relies on data from Mercedes vehicles traveling ahead.

Buyers can also equip the SUV with E-Active Body Control, which analyzes road conditions 1,000 times per second using more than 20 sensors. The system reduces body roll and pitch and can lean the SUV into corners by up to three degrees.

Cabin Focuses on Comfort and Advanced Technology

The interior gains new vibration massage functions for the front seats, while the rear Executive Seats now include calf-rest massage capability for the first time.

Mercedes-Maybach also offers new leather colors along with additional wood and metal trim selections. A refrigerated compartment is positioned between the rear seats, while the hand-stitched MANUFAKTUR leather headliner continues to be crafted by a single craftsperson.

Technology upgrades include a triple-screen MBUX Superscreen beneath a single glass panel. The voice assistant now incorporates generative AI from ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft.

An upgraded Burmester audio system now features 15 speakers, including two additional rear speakers. The cabin also benefits from an electric air filtration system that refreshes interior air approximately every 90 seconds, enhanced sound insulation, and optional dual 11.6-inch rear entertainment displays.

Production and Availability

The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 is built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where Mercedes has assembled SUVs for three decades. A dedicated Maybach team trained in Germany hand-finishes each interior outside the main production line, with two specialists completing every vehicle.

The SUV also includes an extensive driver-assistance system featuring 10 cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, and a new onboard computer. An optional package will add a point-to-point city driving feature at a later date.

Mercedes has not announced pricing for the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680. The luxury SUV is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships later in 2026.
