Dodge Continues to Tease the Copperhead Hyper-Muscle Car
Earlier this year, Dodge previewed the Copperhead SRT, describing it as a new “Hyper-Muscle” car rather than a rival to the Chevrolet Corvette. Although the model is widely expected to become the brand’s halo vehicle, Dodge has not detailed what role it could play in the company’s future lineup or motorsports plans.
The “Hyper-Muscle” designation suggests the vehicle may blend characteristics of a traditional muscle car with those of a sports car instead of directly competing with the C8 Corvette.
Stellantis Files Patent for an Adjustable Racing Seat
FCA US, Stellantis’ American division, has filed U.S. patent application 20260200372 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a driver’s seat featuring an adjustable racing design.
The patent describes a seat that can recline and raise the front section, allowing the driver to sit in a slouched position. Unlike conventional racing seats, the design is intended to accommodate drivers of varying sizes through a wider range of adjustment.
Such a configuration could help fit taller drivers into vehicles with low rooflines or provide a one-seat solution adaptable to multiple drivers.
No Current Stellantis Racing Program Appears to Need It
Manufacturers frequently file patents to secure intellectual property or preserve future development options, and the filing does not confirm that the technology will enter production.
At present, the design does not appear to have an obvious application within Stellantis’ current motorsports programs. Dodge’s efforts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and drag racing generally do not involve driver changes during competition, reducing the need for a rapidly adjustable racing seat.
Copperhead Design Raises Endurance Racing Possibilities
When Dodge previewed the Copperhead, the vehicle appeared beneath a cover that revealed a large rear wing, drawing comparisons to high-performance versions of the Dodge Viper.
Large rear wings are not commonly associated with NASCAR or top-level drag racing. By contrast, GT3 endurance racing regularly features driver changes during pit stops, where crews have enough time to adjust seating positions for different drivers.
The combination of the patent and the Copperhead’s visible aerodynamic design has led to questions about whether the vehicle could eventually be suited for that type of competition, although no such plans have been announced.
Positioning Within Dodge’s Performance Lineup
The Copperhead has also prompted comparisons with performance models from rival automakers. Rather than serving strictly as a Corvette competitor, the vehicle could occupy a position between the Ford Mustang GTD and Corvette C8, based on the description provided.
