The next-generation Cadillac CT5 is expected to debut during the second half of 2028 as a 2029 model, according to a recent report. The upcoming luxury sedan will continue Cadillac’s combustion-powered lineup as the automaker maintains a broader powertrain strategy alongside its expanding range of electric vehicles.
Cadillac Continues Supporting the CT5
Cadillac had previously targeted an all-electric lineup by 2030, signaling plans to phase out its combustion-powered vehicles. However, the luxury brand later eased that strategy, allowing gasoline-powered models to remain in its lineup in the coming years.
Among those vehicles is the CT5, Cadillac’s midsize luxury sedan. The company confirmed last year that a next-generation version was in development, and GM Authority has since reported that the redesigned model is expected to arrive during the second half of 2028 for the 2029 model year.
Current CT5 Remains Fresh in the Lineup
Although the redesigned model is still several years away, the CT5 received a facelift for the 2025 model year, keeping it aligned with a typical product update cycle. Competing alternatives include the recently updated Lexus ES and, at a higher price point, the Genesis G80.
Cadillac also continues to offer the performance-focused CT5-V Blackwing, one of America’s remaining traditional performance sedans. The model features a V8 engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
According to the report, the CT5-V Blackwing is also expected to return with the next-generation CT5, even as Cadillac continues expanding its electric vehicle portfolio.
Platform and Future Product Plans
The next-generation CT5 is expected to ride on an updated version of GM’s Alpha 2 platform, internally known as Alpha 2-2. The architecture is also expected to underpin the returning Chevrolet Camaro and a new Buick sedan.
Cadillac currently offers several electric vehicles, including the Optiq, Lyriq, and Vistiq. The Escalade is also available with an all-electric powertrain as the Escalade IQ, while the made-to-order Celestiq serves as the brand’s flagship ultra-luxury liftback, competing with the Rolls-Royce Spectre.
Current Cadillac CT5 Pricing and Performance
For the 2026 model year, the Cadillac CT5 starts at $49,200 before destination charges. The standard model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine producing 237 horsepower.
The CT5-V Blackwing increases output to 668 horsepower through a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine. The flagship performance sedan starts at $98,900.
Other Cadillac Models Remain in Focus
While the CT5 is expected to return as buyers gain access to more electrified vehicles, there are currently no indications of a successor to the smaller CT4. Meanwhile, the XT6 is also set to return, offering a three-row option for customers who prefer not to move to the all-electric Vistiq.
The next-generation CT5 represents Cadillac’s continued commitment to offering combustion-powered luxury sedans while the company expands its electric vehicle lineup across multiple segments.
