Chevrolet has introduced the new Trailblazer High Country Midnight, a range-topping special edition designed to deliver enhanced off-road capability while maintaining its role as a family SUV. The new model is launching in Brazil and is based on a body-on-frame platform rather than the smaller Trailblazer crossover sold in the United States.
New Special Edition Expands the Trailblazer Lineup
According to GM Authority, the Chevrolet Trailblazer High Country Midnight is now available in Brazil with upgrades focused on improving off-road performance.
Fabio Daumichen, chief engineer of 4×4 vehicles at GM South America, said the goal was to increase the SUV’s capability without compromising its everyday usability.
“Our challenge with the new Trailblazer Midnight was to further enhance its 4×4 capability without taking away its role as a family car,” Daumichen said.
Off-Road Upgrades Include New Suspension
Developed in collaboration with GM’s performance team, the Trailblazer High Country Midnight features an Ironman suspension with specially tuned shocks and springs designed for a three-row SUV.
The suspension raises the vehicle by up to 30 mm (1.18 inches), improving its approach and departure angles. It also provides 320 mm (12.6 inches) of ground clearance and greater water-fording capability.
Powered by a 2.8-Liter Turbodiesel Engine
Power comes from a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine producing 207 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque.
The report notes that this type of engine is commonly used in body-on-frame pickups and SUVs outside the United States, including models such as the Toyota Hilux and Mazda BT-50 sold in South America. It offers strong low-end torque, fuel efficiency, and durability for demanding use.
Pricing and Production Plans
The report states that the range-topping Chevrolet Trailblazer starts at 422,590 reais, or about $82,400 at current exchange rates.
Chevrolet initially plans to build approximately 100 examples of the High Country Midnight edition and will determine future production based on market demand.
A Body-on-Frame SUV Not Offered in the U.S.
The Trailblazer High Country Midnight is closely related to the Chevrolet S10 pickup sold in Brazil and serves as that market’s SUV counterpart to the Colorado.
Chevrolet does not offer a comparable Colorado-based three-row SUV in the United States, similar to Ford’s decision not to sell the Ranger-based Everest in the U.S. The report notes that bringing such models to the American market would be difficult because diesel engines are harder to justify, they could overlap with existing SUVs, and they would require greater power and refinement to compete with gasoline- and hybrid-powered alternatives.
