Mercedes-AMG A 45 S Final Edition has been unveiled as a send-off for the brand’s most powerful gasoline-powered hot hatch. Now available to order in Germany, the special edition adds exclusive styling upgrades while retaining the model’s 416-horsepower turbocharged engine.
The World’s Most Powerful Gas-Powered Hot Hatch
In the United States, the most powerful combustion-only hot hatch is the Volkswagen Golf R, which produces 328 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Paired with all-wheel drive, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.
The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S, however, delivers even greater performance. Although it was never sold in the U.S., its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine produces 416 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, sending power to all four wheels. The Audi RS 3 Sportback, which also is not available in the U.S., comes closest with nearly 400 horsepower.
North America did receive the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S, which shares the same powertrain as the A 45 S but features a sedan body. As the new electric-only AMG CLA begins rolling out, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is expected to disappear from both compact AMG models.
Final Edition Available to Order in Germany
With the current-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class nearing the end of its production run, Mercedes-AMG has introduced the A 45 S Final Edition. The model is now available to order in Germany and is expected to reach additional European markets in limited numbers.
Mercedes-AMG has not disclosed how many examples will be built. The Final Edition is offered as a package priced at €6,074.95 on top of the standard model, which starts at €62,839.44.
Buyers can also add the AMG Aerodynamics Package with decals for an additional €10,091.20 over the base vehicle price.
Exterior Upgrades Highlight the Final Edition
The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S Final Edition features 19-inch AMG forged wheels finished in matte black with distinctive center caps accented by yellow highlights.
Gloss black and dark chrome trim are used throughout the exterior, including the door mirrors, body trim, and exhaust outlets.
Vehicles equipped with the AMG Aerodynamics Package receive a more aggressive appearance through an enlarged front splitter with small canards, additional rear aerodynamic elements, and a fixed roof spoiler designed to generate greater downforce at higher speeds.
Interior Receives Exclusive Details
Inside, yellow accents appear throughout the cabin, including the seats, doors, steering wheel, and carpeting. A special emblem on the dashboard distinguishes the Final Edition from the standard A 45 S.

Future of the AMG Hot Hatch
The report suggests the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S Final Edition could become the final AMG hot hatch. It also notes previous reports that the next-generation A-Class is expected to return to its original mini MPV concept.
The first two generations of the A-Class featured a taller design before the third generation adopted a lower, more conventional hatchback shape. While a future AMG version appears unlikely under that approach, the report notes that AMG previously installed its 6.2-liter V8 into the R-Class minivan.
The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S Final Edition closes the chapter on the current high-performance hatchback with exclusive styling enhancements while preserving the powertrain that made it the world’s most powerful gasoline-powered hot hatch.
